6 Female Cartoon and Animated Characters That Empower Women

Nothing screams more than girl power with these female cartoon and animated characters on TV and the big screen

There was a time when there were only a number of female characters on TV and in movies that we can see or watch. But over the years, different TV stations and movie companies have been developing female cartoon and animated characters young girls can look up to. We rounded up 6 familiar characters who we feel are the epitome of strong, empowered ladies on the screen.

Wonder Woman

She’s been part of the DC Universe in comics, cartoons, games, live-action series, and on the big screen. Wonder Woman has been the epitome of girl power for many generations, showing that a woman like Diana can compete with men around her.

She-Ra, Princess of Power

She-Ra was conceptualized to capture the young girls’ market after the success of He-Man and the Masters of the Universe. First introduced as Adora, He-man’s twin sister, she transforms into She-Ra, gaining magical powers and super strength in fighting the Horde led by Hordak.

She-Ra was re-introduced as She-Ra and the Princesses of Power on Netflix in 2018.

Judge J.B McBride from BraveStarr

She’s BraveStarr’s ally, consultant, and Fort Kerium’s judge and lawyer. But make no mistake, J.B ain’t a damsel in distress as she carries an electronic gavel given to her by the Prairies that she uses as a weapon when needed.

The Power Puff Girls

Blossom, Buttercup, and Bubbles may be kids but they have super strength and the ability in fighting the bad guys. But it’s not just strength and sisterhood that’s empowering about them. They treat Professor Plutonium like a father which is an important part of their story.

Totally Spies

The 2000s saw Sam, Clover, and Alex, three Beverly Hills teenagers working for the World Organization of Human Protection under its director Jerry as undercover spies. Although they work as spies, they also face typical teenage problems like keeping their grades up and crushes.

Oh, and the cool gadgets, let’s not forget about it.

Kim Possible

Kim Possible may look like an ordinary cheerleader and student but she fights the bad guys. Together with her pal Ron Stoppable, pet Rufus, and webmaster Wade, the four of them try to stop the baddies from creating disaster in the world.

You go strong women!

We often tell our daughters and nieces to be strong growing up. Let’s give them these female cartoon and animated characters as inspirations to show them that there is nothing wrong with fighting for what you believe in in a world that often times underestimate the women around them. Show them what girl power looks like.
