Summer Metro Manila Film Festival to Finally Push Through this 2023

The Summer edition of the Metro Manila Film Festival is happening in April. And it will allow more families to watch Filipino films.

After a 3-year delay, the Summer edition of the Metro Manila Film Festival is finally pushing through this year. Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) and MMFF chairman, lawyer Romando Artes, confirmed the news last January 9 during a press conference.

The summer MMFF is a project in partnership with the Cinema Exhibitors Association of the Philippines (CEAP).

“We will release the deadline for submission of entries as early as we can. Interested producers and filmmakers may be guided accordingly,” Artes said.

April schedule

The target for the summer festival will be from April 1 to 18 with the Parade of Stars scheduled on April 1 and the awards night on April 11. The festival will run for 11 days.

The Summer Metro Manila Film Festival was originally scheduled for 2020. However, it was temporarily postponed due to the lockdown implementation. Thus, they were forced to adapt online before returning to cinemas in 2022.

The summer edition hopes to duplicate the success of the 2022 edition, which has reached its gross target of P500 million. Four films – Deleter, Family Matters, Labyu with an Accent, and Partners in Crime topped the festival.
