Halloween Costume Guide: Wicked Edition

Do the kids want to “defy gravity” or be “popular?” Here’s a Halloween costume guide for the kids (or parents) who love Wicked!

The beauty of the Wicked musical’s and movie’s costumes is that they all have a central theme: being a witch. Sure, you can choose to be the Lion, the Scarecrow, the Tin Man, or even Dorothy herself—but let’s be honest, the witches and wizards have cooler looks. Madame Morrible’s emerald or amethyst slimming gown, Glinda’s fluffy carnation pink ball gown and tiara look, Elphaba’s simple and timeless black witchy look, or even the wizard’s emerald suit ensemble are all fun to style.

Whether it’s to attend the upcoming premiere of the second part of Wicked, Wicked: For Good, this coming November 21, 2025, or to unleash our inner “good” or “wicked” witch, here’s a Halloween costume guide for those families who want to live out their Wicked Broadway dreams.

Glinda the Good

Glinda’s costume, color-wise, is just light pink and glitter everywhere. As the “good” witch, she needs to look light, preppy, and happy. Despite the single color, she has many looks.

  • Glinda’s Shiz University uniform – A blazer and skirt combination in varying shades of pink.
  • The Good Witch ballgown – Glinda’s signature look; we can either go with the traditional puff sleeve ball gown or Ariana Grande’s look from the recent Wicked movie: a pink tube with a sweetheart neckline with a layered skirt.

Where can we get Glinda the Good’s costume?

Depending on the outfit or the look, the places vary. But the fun part is: Glinda the Good’s costume can be used for other occasions as well.

  • Since Glinda’s Shiz University uniform is just a blazer and skirt combination, it can be found in the kids’ section of H&M, possibly Zara, and maybe even Uniqlo. Teens and older kids may even want to spruce it up by making it a “tweed” look, which is very fitting for the preppy Glinda.
  • The pink ballgown is her signature look, and younger kids can find it in Spinkiewear. Older kids can find or rent out a pink ball gown. Some can also break it into two parts, so long as it’s made of tulle and glittery.

What are Glinda the Good’s accessories?

For Glinda’s Shiz University uniform, she has a pink small sling bag and a lavender colored notebook. In some depictions, she even had a hat or a headband with a bow.

Her ballgown look has two accessories: a silver tiara and a staff. The tiara’s pretty easy to find in the wedding section of most department stores like Landmark and SM, whereas the staff is usually DIY. Some parents just wrap a stick in aluminum foil while attaching a silver Christmas star on top. Others prefer the modern depiction, where they buy a pale pink Christmas ball and just hot-glue the crystal spikes on it.

Elphaba the Wicked

While Elphaba’s look is generally dark colors, it’s her green skin that makes her stand out. Unfortunately, rolling one’s entire body in green face paint not only takes too much time but also risks skin problems. Like Glinda, she also has two looks:

  • Elphaba’s Navy Blue Shiz uniform – Unlike Glinda’s uniform, Elphaba prefers dark colors. Hers is a navy blue pinstripe blazer and skirt set, with the top sporting some shoulder padding or bone. However, it might be a difficult buy, so some even just opt for a pinstripe blazer dress instead.
  • The Wicked Witch – This may feel a lot easier to do. Black shrouds and witch hats are found in most costume stores, and we’re free to play with the black dress. If we’re being faithful to the movie, then Elphaba wears a long-sleeved black button-down dress. However, feel free to play around by breaking it into pieces like a black puffy long sleeve and a black bohemian skirt. Hide the garter with a simple black belt.

Where can we get Elphaba’s costume and accessories?

The best part is, Elphaba’s Wicked look is just the traditional witch costume. It’s subject to interpretation and evolving at this point. So, any toy store will probably have the cloak, hat, and broom.

As for the black dress, Zara Kids may have it. H&M kids may also have the black dress.

How do we make the “green skin” for Elphaba?

The fastest way? Go grab a spray gun and paint your kid head-to-toe with green face paint. It’s probably funny to watch, but probably the most expensive way too. Plus, it’s kind of risky if our kids have sensitive skin.

The hack involves some shopping. Green face paint for the face, but for the legs and hands, it’s better to buy green stockings and gloves. Make sure they’re a breathable fabric like tulle or something, so if the place is hot, they can still scratch.

Madame Morrible

While Madame Morrible never really appeared in the original novel in the 1900s, she is quite essential in the movie. Plus, Michelle Yeoh brought her to life. After watching her play the domineering Eleanor Sung-Young in Crazy Rich Asians, who wouldn’t want to feel that empowered for Halloween?

However, being a minor character means there may not be many stores that sell her costume on hand. But her looks are rather simple. They follow two color palettes: either emerald green or amethyst. Most importantly, she has to sparkle or look like a noble. As the ruler of Oz with the wizard, she has to look regal.

Both gowns she wears have a high collar, which can be “hacked” by buying one of those sparkling boleros from gown shops. After that, it boils down to the accessories. Her jewelry is either white gold (for her purple gown) or yellow gold for the emerald look.

Dorothy

The Wizard of Oz focuses much on Dorothy, so we may as well have her Halloween costume. Plus, she has quite the role to play in the upcoming Wicked: For Good movie.

Dorothy’s trademark look is that of a farm girl. If we were to follow Judy Garland’s look, she had bright red Mary Janes, a white and blue Gingham dress, and white puffy sleeve inner. The hair’s usually just braided into two low pigtails with white ribbons. She also follows the same look in the upcoming movie.

Where to get Dorothy’s costume?

Dorothy’s look is just a combination of essential pieces.

  • Blue and white gingham dress – Shops like Zara Kids, OshKosh, Gingersnaps, and Periwinkle may have the look.
  • White puffed sleeve inner blouse – Easy to find in department stores and maybe shops like H&M kids or Periwinkle.
  • Red Mary Janes – Gibi Kids or Meet My Feet may have. Or, if we’re looking forward to investing in a piece, any Marikina-based shoe shop will most likely have one.

Fiyero

We’d like our sons to match the whole Wicked Halloween theme, even if they do so reluctantly. But let’s be honest: for most sons (especially the older ones), we probably bribed them to do so one way or another with extra screen time, cash, or a curfew-free outing with friends.

In Wicked, Fiyero probably has the most looks—especially when he turns into the Scarecrow.

How to style Fiyero the Prince’s look

As a prince, however, he often styles himself in dark colored suit sets. He has the navy blue one, which he uses while in Shiz University, the emerald green one if we’re following the Broadway performance, and a red tailcoat and pants ensemble with a white button down and beige vest.

However, his more casual look may be easier: khaki pants, brown knee-high boots, a bright red button-up vest, and a white collared, short-sleeved shirt. For the boys, the clothes may be easier to find in either Uniqlo kids or H&M kids.

How to style Fiyero as the Scarecrow

A scarecrow just involves lots of ragged and tattered clothes and straw. In the old movies, the Scarecrow was depicted wearing a tattered brown hat and a green patched body suit filled with straw. He also wore jute gloves. Since straw can be a bit itchy, we can try buying those faux fur hair scrunchies in light brown and wear them on the wrist and ankles to simulate straw.

The Wizard of Oz

Of course, what is Wicked without the villain—the Wizard himself? Like any member of the Emerald City, he wears green. However, as the ruler of Oz, the Wizard wears something more decorated. Jeff Goldblum wears a monochromatic green suit set, matching through different shades. Because the Wizard has so many depictions, he can wear anything so long as it’s 1) emerald green, and 2) it’s formal wear.

Tips for the Wicked Fans this Halloween 2025

The only caveat to wearing Wicked theme costumes is possibly how heavy and “decked out” they may be. Focus on getting more breathable fabrics and pieces that can be used even in everyday wear. That way, it won’t feel like we just bought the piece for the occasion.

A lot of the millennials grew up on Wicked—whether it’s via the novel or the musical. And for many millennial parents, we’re always trying to reintroduce the classics to the kids in the advent of AI. Because for many of us, the classic stories will always have lessons to teach.

Halloween 2025 Costume Ideas: Wicked Edition

You can find ready-made Wicked costumes in local shops like Toy Kingdom, SM Department Store, and Party City Philippines. For creative parents, pieces from H&M Kids, Zara, or Periwinkle can easily be styled into Glinda or Elphaba looks. Some parents even rent gowns from Spinkiewear or local gown rental boutiques.

The Elphaba witch costume is the easiest — all you need is a black dress, hat, and broom! You can DIY her signature green look using green stockings and gloves instead of full-body paint, which is safer for sensitive skin.

Parents and kids can each take a role from Wicked: mom as Madame Morrible, dad as The Wizard, and the kids as Glinda, Elphaba, or Fiyero. It’s fun, cohesive, and perfect for trick-or-treat events or even the Wicked: For Good movie premiere on November 21, 2025.

Go for breathable fabrics like cotton or tulle and avoid heavy materials. Layer pieces that can be reused — for example, Glinda’s blazer and skirt can double as a school outfit, and Fiyero’s vest and boots can be worn casually after Halloween.

For Glinda, DIY a tiara using aluminum foil and craft gems. For Elphaba, use green gloves instead of paint. For Dorothy, reuse a gingham dress and red shoes from local brands like Gingersnaps or Marikina-made shoes. Filipino parents love being resourceful — and Wicked costumes are perfect for creative reuse!
