Opening in cinemas and IMAX internationally on August 12, the film turns a familiar suburban neighborhood into an extraordinary prehistoric battleground.

Directed by David Robert Mitchell and produced by J.J. Abrams, The End of Oak Street follows the Platt family after a mysterious cosmic event rips their entire street out of suburbia and transports it somewhere completely unknown.

Hathaway even drew inspiration from Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz when developing Denise’s appearance. She wanted the suburban mom to look almost deceptively innocent before revealing a much tougher side.

“I just wanted everything to feel very defenseless,” Hathaway explains, before describing Denise protecting her children from a gigantic snake-like creature.

That transformation could make Denise one of the movie’s biggest surprises.

McGregor, meanwhile, believes the family relationship is what makes the spectacle matter. “The family is the heart of the movie,” he says, emphasizing that audiences need to care about the Platts beyond the dinosaur action.

And there is plenty of action. Stella describes the film’s scale as “big,” including her first experience with wire work, while Convery promises “a lot of fence hopping,” screaming, rooftops, and jumping.

Naturally, Starbuck gets in on the adventure too. Played by Australian Cattle Dogs Buzz and Brisket, the Platts’ canine companion became such a beloved presence behind the scenes that Hathaway calls Starbuck the film’s “undisputed hero.”
