After navigating a public separation, actress and podcaster Gee Canlas shows how prioritizing fitness, self-love, and identity makes her a stronger parent for her son, Caleb
A marriage breakdown is never easy to weather, especially in the public eye. For actress, TV host, and podcaster Gee Canlas, navigating the transition into solo parenthood became a matter of public conversation after confirming her separation from her estranged husband Archie Alemania. Yet, Gee refused to let life’s shifts define her story.
Taking to social media early this year, Gee framed her new chapter around self-worth and alignment: ” I’m choosing to love myself with the same consistency and effort I give others, and I’m no longer making myself smaller for anyone. I want to show up more. For myself, for Caleb, for the people I love, and for the work that’s always felt like home to me. That’s the only way I can be fully me as a daughter, sister, a friend, a woman… as a solo parent.”

Her journey toward rediscovery gained rapid momentum when she entered the Century Tuna Superbods competition, walking away with the Ageless Award and redefining what modern, active motherhood looks like.
Unlocking New Strengths
For Gee, the stage was less about aesthetics and more about personal evolution.
“I have [discovered] more parts of myself now,” Gee shares with Modern Parenting. “I didn’t realize I could do Hyrox, or na kaya ko makipagkaibigan with 39 other individuals. As an ambivert, unlocking that was a huge progress for me.”
Balancing her roles as an actress, podcaster, fitness advocate, and devoted mother to her son, Caleb, grounded her during the shift.

Bouncing Back Through Self-Love
While solo parenting comes with unique demands, Gee attributes her resilience to a strong support network of family, friends, and fellow mothers who have rallied behind her. Her advice for women navigating similar life transitions centers on small, intentional steps.
“It’s about rediscovering how to love yourself,” Gee reflects. “Discover the simple things that bring you joy. It doesn’t have to be a grand gesture—small steps are a great start.”
Those small steps have paved the way for exciting milestones. In addition to getting a much-deserved vacation, Gee is returning to television in GMA’s primetime series Firewall as a close friend of Kylie Padilla’s character. She is also doubling down on Shay Whut?, the podcast she co-hosts with her good friend Abby Asistio.
“There’s a lot ahead, plus my ongoing fitness routine because I’m not stopping,” Gee smiles. “It’s going to be busy.”
More than the opportunities, Gee remains focused on being with Caleb, as she reflected after the competition.
“Through every challenge, I kept thinking: What would make him proud of his mom? What will he remember from watching me?” she wrote on Instagram. “I want him to know that you can get knocked down, but you don’t have to stay down. There’s always a next step, as long as you’re willing to take it.”
“Hearing Caleb cheer for me that night will forever be a core memory. In that moment, I already felt like I won.”
For many parents, Gee’s narrative offers a powerful reminder: while life brings unexpected turns, rediscovering your identity outside of societal expectations only deepens the strength you bring to your family.
