Carla Lizardo and Jutt Sulit: Preparations for Their New Parenthood Journey

Soon-to-be parents Carla Lizardo and Jutt Sulit are a few months away from becoming parents. How are they preparing for it?

Becoming parents for the first time can be exciting and nerve-wracking. Their emotions are quite a roller coaster. This is what sportscaster Jutt Sulit and beauty queen and host Carla Lizardo felt when they found out they were expecting their first child.

In an exclusive interview with Modern Parenting, the couple shared the moment they found out about the pregnancy and how they’ve been prepping for the arrival of their new member.

A roller coaster of emotions and food aversions

“We cried tears of joy and excitement,” Carla recalled. “We both dream of becoming parents and building our family, so when we found out we were expecting, it was the happiest news we’ve ever gotten.”

On top of the excitement, The Queens host had to make some adjustments when it came to the changes in her body. “Honestly, I was not prepared for the wild ride that was my first trimester. I had really bad morning sickness, and a lot of aversions—I was even averse to water!” Carla exclaimed.

“So I really had to rest a lot during the first few months,” she added. “Luckily, as soon as I hit the second trim I felt much better. I’m feeling more energetic and I love my growing baby bump so much. As for mood swings, Jutt is lucky because I haven’t really had any. As long as I’m well fed, it should stay that way.”

On the subject of mood swings, Jutt admitted he was lucky there wasn’t much change. The challenge he added was food aversion.

“Lucky for me, she hasn’t had any mood swings,” he said of his wife. “In terms of food, it’s more of aversions than cravings that we have to deal with. There are certain dishes that she used to love, but now, even the thought of it displeases her. So I just try to let her have what she wants whenever possible. Sometimes I say ‘no’ though, when it’s a lot of sweets or fast food. But as long as it’s in moderation, then it’s okay.”

Luckily when Carla craved something, Jutt said all he had to do was to just dial the phone and have something delivered.

Prepping the space for the baby

With just months away before the arrival of their child, Carla and Jutt have been making space in their house.

“We’ve been told that baby stuff takes a lot of space, so we want to make sure we’re ready for that,” Carla said. “We’ve also started planning the layout of the house for when the baby comes—things like where to position the crib and where the playpen will be. “

“Another thing we’re working on is routine. We want to create better habits at home so that it won’t be too difficult to adjust and manage work, parental, and other responsibilities when the baby arrives.”

More than that, the couple is just grateful that they’ve been getting help—not only from their families but also from good friends who are parents themselves as they navigate this new journey.

“We’re lucky we have generous friends. We always hear: don’t buy this, don’t buy that because they’re willing to share stuff they have that isn’t being used anymore,” Carla shared. “At first we felt too shy to accept but then they made us understand that we were helping them out by taking those stuff out of their storage.”

Gearing up for the adventure

More than the physical preparations for their baby, instilling values in their baby is something they are looking forward to teaching.

“There are many [we want to teach], but above all else, it’s kindness,” the couple explained. “We’ve always been taught that it doesn’t hurt to be nice and to help others. We want our baby to understand the value of making someone smile and how far a simple act of kindness can go.”

But how do parents know if they’re ready for it? For Carla, “All we know now is that we’re ready to learn along the way. We’re excited at the thought that as our baby grows, we, too, will grow as parents. We can’t wait to be a family of three!”
