Clean Toilets, Healthier Kids: How Clean Toilets Motivate Kids in School
On World Toilet Day, Domex enlightens kids and teachers on why keeping toilets clean is a must
Nobody likes holding their urge to use the toilet. So why should we expect kids to do so? But kids hold their urge for a variety of reasons with the cleanliness of the bathroom being the most common one. With mold and germs in all sorts of colors (usually brown or yellow before turning black) covering the toilet and sink, who would want to use the bathroom? The bathroom, being humid, is the perfect breeding ground for germs which is what Domex aims to be: every family’s go-to germ-buster for bathrooms as its known to kill 99.9% of germs*.
On November 19, 2024, also known as World Toilet Day, Domex, together with the Knowledge Channel Foundation, launched their Germbusters campaign at Ciriaco Elementary School, Taguig with an educational film and exciting Germbuster boot camp for the kids.
How clean bathrooms motivate kids to study better
Many of us will most likely claim that our bladder control was something we learned from school.
Parents may be able to repeatedly remind their kids to not “hold their need for the bathroom” but, a dirty bathroom can be nerve-wracking. Mold everywhere in different colors, the acidic smell, the brownish stains on the ceramics — these trigger every human’s survival instinct, telling them, “I’m in danger! Leave now.” But the kids just can’t leave school. With classes running for the next four to eight hours, kids, influenced by their fears, force themselves to split their attention to do two things: hold their urge in fear of wetting themselves in public while learning their lessons.
Since schools are where kids spend most of their days and hours, keeping the grounds clean — especially the bathrooms and toilets — is not a privilege but a necessity. Access to clean toilets is a right for every Filipino child after all, reveals co-founder, President and Executive Director of the Knowledge Channel Foundation (KCFI) Rina Lopez.
“The videos are made in line with the Department of Education’s Music, Arts, Physical Education and Health (MAPEH) curriculum, specifically the health as it aims to teach our young learners about basic toilet sanitation and proper hygiene behaviors,” she adds.”Not only will the video be on the Knowledge Channel and YouTube, it’ll also be distributed to 39 schools within the Taguig-Pateros area through flash drives.”
But cleanliness also extends to the home. Especially when kids are encouraged to learn through play, it’s important to keep the places they play in clean since they expose themselves to all sorts of dirt.
“From their toys, the surfaces, and the rooms they use,” reveals vlogger mom Kryz Uy who joins Domex’s initiative with Slater Young as the brand’s newest influencers. “Everything needs to be clean and we need to use strong cleaners.”
A cleaner place leaves more energy for kids to focus
With less clutter and fewer germs to think about, families can focus on more productive things. While yes, it can be demanding and stressful to hold a higher standard of cleanliness — our health is well worth the investment. Being more meticulous in keeping the home clean means creating more opportunities for happy family memories and an environment where kids can succeed without the fear of getting sick.
