Heart Evangelista Gets Candid On the Pressure of Having Kids

In her interview with MEGA, Heart Evangelista reveals she had to let go of people who were not helping her in her journey amidst the pressure of not having children.

Heart Evangelista has been the darling of Fashion Week in Paris. But in her interview with MEGA this February, the actress and fashion icon shared that she had to let go of several people in her life. She also put her foot down, especially with people’s standards.

“I think it was a lot about being pressured to have a baby,” Heart told MEGA in the magazine’s February issue. “It was not necessarily from certain people. It was really like a shift in my life: the pressures of being a wife, the pressures of being a certain mold, and I just wanted to get rid of that. And I did, by doing what I felt like doing. And if people don’t get it, then they don’t get it.”

“I’ll do it my way.”

Although she knows when to speak and shrugs off issues, Heart also knows that being in the public eye comes with a lot of scrutiny.

“This is my bread and butter, so I get it,” she said. “But it’s really more about how you deal with that. I guess I never really learned the art of dealing with being in showbiz completely. People will always have something to say. But, now, I totally don’t care. And if I do want something, I’ll do it my way. I do have plans and I do like to pressure myself, but I have no regrets. And you never know when the time is up. So, I will just work towards my dream. I will work towards building something for my family, for myself. But if I don’t get there, I won’t get heartbroken about it.”

“There are certain people that feel like you can’t make it without them,” she said. “I don’t want to be a hostage of anything and anyone. And I’m just very appreciative of my husband for seeing that. I think, in a way, maybe he was afraid for me, that I would be hurt by the world, or the letdowns, or people doing things to me, because he knew that I had such a gentle heart, and he thought I wouldn’t survive a heartbreak. But I can survive anything.”

Heart Evangelista’s sentiments

After her miscarriage in 2018, Heart has gotten a lot of comments on when she plans to have a child. At one point, she did not hold back and reminded people to be sensitive. In a TikTok post in 2022, she told one commenter: “Ayoko eh. Didn’t anyone teach you manners? I mean, you know what, if I am not sad about it then why are you even?”

She has also addressed the issue several times on Twitter saying: “Stop telling me to get pregnant unless you really want to hurt me. Nobody knows the real struggle. Also, may I add life is good. The people I love are fine. And everything else in between is okay. So bonus na lang if I do conceive. It’s my body.”

Heart Evangelista is married to Senator Chiz Escudero and is a stepmother to his twins from his previous marriage.
