3 Important Lessons from the Movie Knock at the Cabin
In M. Night Shyamalan’s thriller film, Knock at the Cabin, a family finds themselves in a nightmare when five strangers ask them to make a sacrifice to save mankind.
M. Night Shyalaman is back with his latest big-screen offering Knock at the Cabin. David Bautista and Rupert Grint headline the film. And it is based on the book The Cabin at the End of the World that Paul Tremblay wrote. Just a quick disclaimer: this article may contain spoilers.
In the movie, Eric (Jonathan Groff) and Andrew (Ben Aldridge) take their daughter Wen (Kristen Cui) to a cabin in the woods and have a family vacation. Wen encounters Leonard (Bautista) who along with his group barge into the cabin and takes them hostage. Then, the group drops the bomb. They ask Eric and Andrew to make the sacrifice to avert what is called the apocalypse.
The movie ends quite gory but there are lessons to be learned from the film when it comes to family and values.

Never talk to strangers
Cliche as it may sound, the movie reminds children in particular not to talk to strangers. Wen sensed danger when Leonard’s other companions approached. She eventually ran to her parents and warned them of the danger that lies ahead. They tried to escape but found themselves hostage.
Stay firm for the safety of your family
Andrew tried to knock some sense into Leonard and his group. As a skeptic, he was firm in saying no when he and Eric were asked to make a decision to save mankind. This may be in part to the challenges he and Eric went through as a couple and finally becoming parents to Wen.
He was also the voice of reason to Eric who started to believe the end of the world. But eventually, Andrew had to make a decision in order to save his family, which he wonders if it was right in doing so.
There is a reason to live
While we’ve been bombarded with so much negative news around the world, there is a reason to live especially for your child. Andrew found himself devastated but knew that Wen still needed him. As he and Wen drove away from the cabin, it’s a fresh start and Wen will serve as a reminder of the relationship he and Eric were building before the ultimate sacrifice they made.
Knock at the Cabin is now showing in cinemas and distributed by Universal Pictures.
