Joaquin Domagoso Feared for His Career After Becoming a Dad

Joaquin Domagoso talked to Boy Abunda about initially keeping quiet about being a father and his relationship with his girlfriend Raffa Castro.

After staying quiet about being a father, Joaquin Domagoso, son of Manila Mayor Isko Moreno recently appeared on Fast Talk with Boy Abunda, where he shared more details of his life as a father and being with his longtime girlfriend Raffa Castro.

Joaquin Domagoso: “I was afraid for my career.”

During the interview, Joaquin, who is 21, admitted that he feared for his showbiz career upon finding out he was going to be a young dad.

“Takot na takot ako. When my fans see me, [sinasabi na] ito yung parang ginagawang matinee idol or something na siya ang next na bida. But for me, I just want to do acting. I just want to be an actor.”

Joaquin added he didn’t want to disappoint anybody and some people started to unfollow him. But there are those who stuck by his side.

“I got to breathe a bit because what then happened afterward was madaming pumasok. Yung mga totoong fans ko na sinosuportahan ako dahil kita nila na mabait ako at gusto ko lang magpatawa ng tao. That’s who I am and that’s who I want to be as an artist.”

He also admitted that when he found out about being a dad, he was happy but later on felt the pressure of the responsibility.

Today, Joaquin is proud to say he’s happy to be a dad to his son Scott with Raffa.

“I am the happiest man alive. Every day I wake up na may kasama na akong saya.”

How Joaquin’s parents reacted to being grandparents

Moreover, Joaquin recalled how Isko and his mom Dynee reacted to the news of being grandparents. Joaquin shared he was initially afraid of his dad’s reaction. But the moment he told him, his dad was excited.

“Papa was so supportive. He was dancing,” he shared. “Nawala yung stress ko.”

As for his mom, Joaquin narrated that she was cleaning the house and scrubbing. She then told him not to rush into getting married.

Realizing what his mom said, Joaquin agreed to the suggestion. He said that he and Rafa agreed not to rush into getting married as well simply because they have a child.

“We’re smart, we’re a new generation and nakakaisip na po kami na dahil lang may anak na po kami magpakasal na po kayo. You have to fall in love with each other. You’re not supposed to force each other. And sa amin, it’s not that pinupuntahan na namin ang marriage pero sa akin, papunta na kami doon. I want a beautiful family.”

Explaining his statement furtther about marriage, Joaquin believes it’s about preparing oneself. “I don’t want to do it just because may anak na kami. Kasi kawawa naman si Raffa nun na the reason why pinakasalan ko siya dahil may anak kami. Dapat nagpapakasal ka dahil mahal mo yung tao.”

Joaquin Domagoso and his relationship with Raffa Castro

Joaquin mentioned that Raffa is his best friend. Raffa is the daughter of former actor and now broadcaster Diego Castro. She is also the younger sister of GMA actress Claire Castro.

“We’ve been friends for counting this year so 6 years,” Joaquin shared. “I know her ex-boyfriends, she knows my ex-girlfriends. That’s how close we are. She is the one.”

It was June last year when it was reported that Joaquin and Raffa welcomed their son Scott. The news was confirmed by Isko himself when he proudly shared he was a grandfather to Scott.

In January, Joaquin’s movie The Boy in the Dark was released and has been getting positive feedback from international award-giving bodies.
