Lea Salonga Recognized by Time as Part of Its 100 Impact Awards
Broadway star, actress, and mom of one, Lea Salonga, is part of the Time 100 Impact Awards which also includes Alia Bhatt and Dr. Pardis Sabeti.
Time has recognized Broadway star, Lea Salonga, as part of its 100 Impact Awards. The publication released an article on its website last September 25. The awards acknowledge visionaries who have gone above and beyond to make an impact and move their respective industries forward.
In an article by Sanya Mansoor, Lea Salonga is described as the voice of Disney Princesses Jasmine and Mulan. Moreover, Lea mentioned in the article that as a Filipina, doing Mulan made it more impactful.
“All of a sudden, the people that look like me had a princess,” she said. “She brings honor to herself and to her family. And she does it with grace.”

Representation of color
Notably playing Kim in Miss Saigon, Lea landed various roles that have broken stereotypes. The article mentioned: “In her four-decade award-winning career as an actress and singer, Lea Salonga has emerged as not only a Disney and Broadway icon but also a role model for children of color. Lea Salonga prides herself on promoting representation in Hollywood and on Broadway, and showing underrepresented groups that their stories matter.”
She currently plays the role of Elodie Honrada in Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin.
Aside from Lea, other awardees are Dr. Pardis Sabeti and Alia Bhatt.
Lea Salonga is currently in the US and is married to Rob Chen. They have a daughter, Nicole. Time will be bestowing the honorees on October 2 in Singapore.
