Mark Hamill Gives Star Wars Fans a Fun Photo From The Golden Globes
Parents who are Star Wars fans finally have closure whether or not Luke Skywalker met his mother, Padmé, in another life.
One of the more heartbreaking parts of Star Wars perhaps for most parents is knowing that Padmé (played by Natalie Portman in the franchise) would never meet her twin children: Luke (played by Mark Hamill) and Leia (played by the late Carrie Fischer).
But Star Wars fans are delighted with the photo that Mark and Natalie took together at the Golden Globes with Mark, even declaring to the fans on Twitter. “I’ve finally met my mother!” he writes.
A Wholesome Alternate Ending to the Skywalker Saga
While episodes 4 to 6 can be credited for making Star Wars popular, episodes 1 to 3 built the backstory of the iconic villain Darth Vader (aka Anakin Skywalker) and the young Jedi Luke Skywalker. In fact, the sci-fi franchise became so popular that many spin-offs and comics began filling up plot holes and developing the characters for more families to enjoy.
But for those who watched the movies in chronological order, it leaves a heartbreaking note with Padmé Amidala dying of childbirth in episode 3—which led to the rise of Darth Vader. Unlike Anakin who had the Force, she did not which made it impossible for her to see her children, Luke and Leia grow up.
In real life, both Mark Hamill and Natalie Portman have also been eager to meet and always had some comical banter on Twitter. Mark first started by saying he had “never met Natalie [this woman]” when Star Wars wished the actress a happy birthday. Then, Natalie responded on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, saying that “she would like to meet him.”
Right after the episode’s release, Mark responded with a light-hearted banter and apology, calling himself an “ungrateful and thoughtless son” and revealing that he forgot to wish her a happy birthday.
“Mother” and “Son” Finally Meet
Although Mark Hamill and Natalie Portman are those who play the iconic characters, it’s still a welcome treat among the fans to see the two of them meet. It’s like watching an alternative ending to the otherwise dreary ending of the Skywalker Saga.
And although Mark stated he wouldn’t be reprising the role of Luke Skywalker anymore, the photo at least gives the Star Wars fans an image that Luke finally met his mother, Padmé.
Mark Hamill is also a dad of three kids: Nathan, Chelsea, and Griffin. On the other hand, Natalie Portman is a mom of two: 12-year-old Aleph and 6-year-old Amalia.
