Marlann Flores On Breastfeeding: “It’s Complicated.”

Celebrity new mom Marlann Flores breaks down the complications of breastfeeding with a sweet encouragement.

There’s always been an argument between exclusive breastfeeding and formula feeding and with all the advice, sometimes, we forget how complicated an affair breastfeeding is. In a candid post on her Instagram, celebrity new mom Marlann Flores, who recently welcomed her daughter with her husband Bryan Santos, breaks down the “real talk” about breastfeeding.

“I didn’t realize how complicated breastfeeding was going to be for me and the baby,” admitted Marlann. “I was so focused on preparing for labor and delivery that I overlooked learning more about breastfeeding.”

Breastfeeding can be a harrowing affair

From being unable to produce milk to withstanding the pain of our baby’s learning to latch properly, we new moms can all agree that breastfeeding is a stressful experience. We can all relate to Marlann; with bleeding and sore nipples, developing a tolerance for it and realizing the need to wean them later can discourage many of us. But these are pains many of us are willing to take. Or as Marlann says, “And all I can do as a mom is take it so that I can feed my baby.”

“Fed is best” — especially for moms who struggle with breastfeeding, what matters most is that our baby eats. We won’t be able to live with the knowledge that our baby starves because many insist on exclusively breastfeeding.

Marlann Flores: “Things will get better.”

Marlann added that babies may suffer a bit of weight loss but, she assures new moms that it’s part of the journey. “My baby was 7 lbs. 1 oz. at birth and dropped to 6 lbs. 5 oz. (which is normal, because exclusively breastfed babies lose weight in the hospital as your body establishes milk supply) but at 4 weeks she’s already 9 lbs. 7 oz.!”

The breastfeeding journey can be long and hard. Sometimes, we might not even see any light in the proverbial tunnel. But Marlann assures that things do get better. With the help of a lactation consultant, Marlann is currently and exclusively breastfeeding her daughter, Olivia.

“I want to encourage all the first-time moms out there that it will indeed get better,” Marlann shares. “Those first three days may possibly be brutal and you might question your decision in pursuing exclusive breastfeeding, but do not fret! The reward will definitely be worth it.”
