Why Miss Saigon Resonates with the Filipino people

Miss Saigon is an adaptation of Giacomo Puccini’s classic opera, Madame Butterfly. It tells the story of a girl named Kim who navigates the chaos in the midst of the Vietnam War. She also falls in love with a G.I named Chris and embarks on a journey to reunite with him.

The musical has become special for many Filipinos as it launched the careers of today’s international theater stars. These include Lea Salonga, Jon Jon Briones, Joanna Ampil, Monique Wilson, and Rachelle Ann Go.

This also marks the return of the musical to Manila since it was first staged in 2000 with original cast member Lea Salonga and Isay Alvarez making a special appearance.

The show will have a limited run in Adelaide and Melbourne before it makes a stop in Manila. Tickets will go on sale starting November 6 via Ticketworld.
