Tennis champion Serena Williams welcomes her new daughter in a sweet family photo!
Serena Williams has officially fulfilled Olympia’s wish to be an older sister as she and her husband, Alexis, welcome their latest addition to their family: their new daughter, Adira River Williams Ohanian! The tennis star posted on her Instagram on August 23, 2023, with many of her friends and colleagues in the entertainment industry such as singer Ciara, fashion icon Donatella Versace, and model Dr. Naomi Campbell, and the professional tennis circuit congratulating her on the new baby.
A Different Kind of Grand Slam
Before the birth of Adira, Serena Williams opened up about “evolving away from her tennis career,” revealing her choice to focus more on being a mother. She also revealed in a past interview how her retirement from the circuit was to fulfill her daughter, Olympia’s, wish in wanting a sister of her own.
“Olympia says this a lot. Sometimes, she even prays to Jehovah to give her a younger sister. I’m the youngest of five sisters myself, and my sisters are my heroes,” admitted the tennis GOAT (Greatest of All Time) in an interview with Vogue.
Many can even say that Adira had quite the reveal even before she was born. When she announced her pregnancy, Serena Williams debuted her baby bump in the 2023 MET Gala in a classic body con serpentina black gown. And for the gender reveal, she had quite a light show. It’s definitely a different kind of grand slam for this tennis mom as she fulfills her eldest daughter’s wish!

Although there’s no word yet if she’ll return to the circuit when Adira’s old enough, we’re sure that Adira’s birth is probably one of her most cherished grand slams. As a mom who grew up among sisters, she’s probably more than happy to give Olympia that same experience. Since she grew up with a tightly knit sisterhood herself, Serena Williams is perhaps looking forward to seeing how her daughters’ sisterhood will develop as a mom of two. Congratulations, Serena!
