The Supergirl Teaser Gives Viewers a Glimpse of Kara Zor-El’s Life
Milly Alcock takes on the cape of Supergirl — and steps into the spotlight as Superman’s cousin
We first met Kara Zor-El in the 2025 Superman movie, when she swooped into the Fortress of Solitude—slightly tipsy, charmingly chaotic—to pick up her dog Krypto from her cousin Kal-El (David Corenswet). Now, she’s finally front and center. DC has dropped the first teaser for her solo film, set for release on June 26, 2026.
An Unexpected Ally
The teaser shows Kara trying to shape a life of her own, much like any 23-year-old who swears this will be her year. But adulthood (and alienhood) rarely go according to plan. A ruthless threat hits far too close to home, forcing her to step into a fight she wasn’t prepared for.
Kara soon crosses paths with Ruthye Marye Knoll, an alien girl who becomes an unlikely companion. Their partnership—reluctant at first—pushes Kara into a tragedy that sets her on a path of vengeance, justice, and self-discovery.
Directed by Craig Gillespie, the movie draws inspiration from the acclaimed comic Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.
Spotlight on Superman’s Cousin
While Superman continues shaping the new DC Universe, this time it’s Kara who gets the spotlight. Her cameo established her as the carefree cousin with an edge, but now we see what lies beneath that attitude.
The teaser hints at a funeral on Krypton—a reminder of the home she and Kal-El lost. On Earth, Kara appears upbeat and spontaneous, the friend who laughs loudest at the party. But like many young adults, especially those carrying invisible emotional weight, she lives with unanswered questions and buried pain about where she came from.
And that’s what makes her compelling: beneath the superhuman strength is a young woman figuring herself out. It’s a vulnerability we’re familiar with in Superman, but here we see it through a different lens—messier, more relatable, and very human.
More to Come in 2026
DC fans will have to wait for a full trailer next year. But the teaser already sends a message that hits home for teens (and even parents watching with them): you can want to be strong and cool, but it’s okay—necessary, even—to be vulnerable.
Supergirl stars Milly Alcock alongside Matthias Schoenaerts, Eve Ridley, David Krumholtz, Emily Beecham, and Jason Momoa.
