Teresa Loyzaga Admits Putting Son Diego In Rehab Was Hard
It’s not easy to put one’s kid through rehabilitation – something that Teresa Loyzaga finally opens up in regards to her son, Diego.
It’s never easy for a mom to see her child in pain, more so to decide to put them in drug rehabilitation. This was the case for actress Teresa Loyzaga, who confirmed in an interview with Boy Abunda about entering her son Diego into rehab years back.
During the interview, Teresa admitted she blamed herself for Diego getting himself into drugs. “I wasn’t always there. Even if I tried, somebody had to work, somebody had to put food on the table.”
And from there, she confirmed that she decided to put her son to rehab. “I think what the people don’t know is that I put him to rehab. There was a part of me that died but I wanted my son to live. So I had to put him into rehab.”
When asked if her son understood the action, the actress shook her head, saying Diego wasn’t himself then.
“We have to understand na yung mga mahal natin sa buhay na kapag nalulon sa droga, pag kinausap mo sila at binabastos ka nila, hindi sila iyon. Nung nawala iyon, bumalik ang anak ko.”
Separating herself from Diego
Teresa went on to say that there were times she would visit Diego at the rehabilitation center but still separated from him. “Bumibista ako sa kanya kahit bawal magkita. That was part of his punishment to learn and appreciate home, and family.”
“Pagbumibisita ako doon pader lang ang pagitan namin [at] hindi niya alam. Pero napapanood ko sa siya sa isang maliit na monitor kung nasaan siya sa loob, kung saan siya pupunta…”
Despite the separation, Teresa kept her faith, saying prayers played a big role in Diego’s change.
“There’s so much to be thankful for. Everyday, you learn something. Everyday is a struggle but there is always a reason to be thankful and rejoice… to be thankful. It’s a new life.”
Although Diego is now better and attending to his daughter Hailey, Teresa admitted that the experience left some trauma inside of her, which she deals with thanks to yoga.
“Sa mga nakakaranas nito, walang nakakahiya. You take care of yourself the best way na kaya mo. Ikaw lang makakaalam what’s best for you.”
Enjoying being a “Glamma”
These days, Teresa enjoys being a grandma to Diego’s daughter Hailey. The veteran kontrabida in many seryes shares that Hailey’s entry to the family has given them so much joy.
“I thought when I had my children, iyon na yung highlight – yung mom in me. Iba yung high ng lola,” she she said.
“I think it’s part of womanhood na akala mo graduate ka na pag mom ka na. Hindi pala. may continuation pa pag naging lola ka. Ibang stage ng womanhood.”
Teresa Loyzaga also touched briefly on the father of her kids – ex-husband Arnold and former partner Cesar Montano, who she shared talk now and then.
Is she open to having a relationship? Teresa said she is not closing her doors. ” That somebody will have to be a brave person because I have a tough shell. And I must admit, I have not met anyone through that shell by choice. Because I focus on my children.”
“It’s not something I look for but if it’s in front of me, [then] why not?”
