TESDA Now Offers a Course on Content Creation

Content creation has boomed in recent years. Now, the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) is offering a course to help aspiring creators hone their skills.

Parents, are you stuck in a rut? Or do you want to do something new in your career? If yes, content creation might be an option for you! Thanks to the power of the internet and the social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok, many people have turned to content creation to boost their income.

Content creation can take on a lot of forms—from family vlogs to cooking recipes, food trips, and more. As parents, you can even use it to make memories with your kids as you go on vacation, try out new restaurants, and celebrate milestones! And for veterans, you can even share tips with first-timer parents.

With the many opportunities for paid collaboration and partnerships borne from content creation, it has become a profession for some. This is why the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) is offering a course as part of professionalizing as it has become a “key generator” for income.

The course was launched last December in partnership with The Kapisanan Social Media Broadcasters ng Pilipinas.

Professionalizing content creation

In an interview with ABS-CBN, Rosanna Urdaneta, the TESDA Deputy Director General for Policies and Planning explained how the course came about.

“They [Kapisanan] were the ones who requested TESDA to develop the standards,” she explained. “They want to professionalize the content creators to prevent [the] proliferation of fake news [and] to have a standard and best practice for content creation.”

TESDA secretary Suharto T. Mangudadatu, Ph.D, on the other hand, acknowledged the importance of content creation today. “Virtual networks and communities have enabled us to connect with our audience, build brand awareness, and strengthen engagement,” Mangudadatu said.

“However, the effectiveness of our efforts relies heavily on the quality and relevance of the content we share. In light of this, our content creators must be well-equipped with the skills and knowledge necessary to produce compelling and engaging content.”

He encourages Filipinos to check the course as it may help them in the future. “I am encouraging tech-voc providers to offer courses on content creation using this new competency standards. Many of our kababayans are very talented and resourceful, and I am confident that if given the right skills, they will be better positioned to create content that resonates better with their audience, foster meaningful connections, and ultimately contribute significantly to society.”

Is content creation for you?

Although many Filipinos continue to hold on to their regular jobs, many have turned to content creation as a source of extra income. Many celebrities have been blogging, especially at the height of the pandemic when movements were restricted.

Some popular parent bloggers include Zeinab Harake, who shares some of her experiences as a single mom, and Joyce Pring-Triviño, who documents milestones as a wife and mom. Even Connh Cruz (known by her handle Modern Nanay) made a name for herself by creating recipes and ASMR videos!

The challenge with content creation, however, includes being able to stand out. How? By creating your own branding and being unique with the topics you tackle and the content you make. It’s very important also to know your audience and draw the line on what you share on social media.

If you’ve been thinking about taking up something new and are creative then maybe a crash course on proper content creation will help you hone your skills further!
