Jada Pinkett Smith Tells Everyone Following Oscars Incident: ‘It’s A Season For Healing’
Jada Pinkett Smith issues the statement after her husband Will Smith apologized for confronting comedian Chris Rock over a joke he made about her look during the Oscars.
Jada Pinkett Smith posted a short statement on Tuesday, March 29, following the incident at the Academy Awards that saw her husband Will punch comedian Chris Rock over a joke he made about her.
On Instagram, Jada posted: “This is a season for healing. And I’m here for it.”
During the awards night held in Los Angeles, Chris made a joke about Jada’s bald look, saying he can’t wait to see G.I Jane 2. G.I. Jane was a movie where actress Demi Moore had to shave her hair for the role.
The joke, however, did not sit well with Will who went up on stage and slapped Chris—which was seen by viewers worldwide.
Will has since issued an apology to the Academy and Chris over the incident.
Battling Alopecia
Unknown to many, Jada has actually been battling with alopecia areata, a condition that causes hair loss. Prior to the Oscars, Jada once again spoke in a video about the standards of black women in Hollywood, particularly their hair.
“Being a Black woman and dealing with hair in Hollywood, in the era I came up in, having your hair look as European as possible was always the thing, and that was really challenging, you know because I liked my hair out wild and curly,” she said.
“But nobody wanted that, so I always had to do my hair in ways that didn’t feel natural to me because I’m trying to play the game.”
“So if I’m doing a cover, everybody’s all, no we want your hair straight and flowy. It’s like alright, cool, but that’s not really what my hair likes to do. So I had to learn to get the courage to go, nah I’m not doing it, which is why I feel the freedom today, I don’t give two craps what people feel about this bald head of mine. Cuz guess what? I love it.”
Jada and Will are one of Hollywood’s well-known couples.
