10 Relatable Fatherhood Moments in Fast X
Besides the speeding cars and the explosions, Fast X has a lot of relatable fatherhood moments.
Behind the heists, explosives, and high-speed car chases, the Fast and Furious movie series had subtle family elements included. Especially with Fast X revealing more of Vin Diesel’s character, Dominic Toretto, and how he and his family built themselves as one of the most efficient clans in pulling off a heist. Of course, no heist comes without shenanigans and blunders that are just too true for families, most especially dads.
1. Dom teaching his son how to drive
Every father has taken it upon themselves to teach their kids how to drive, especially if they have more experience in doing so. Dom does exactly that, even encouraging his son, Little B, as he learns how to drive donuts around the different palm trees in Los Angeles.
2. Dom trusting his son to his siblings
When Dom faces off with the sociopath Dante Reyes (played by Jason Momoa), he entrusts his son’s welfare to his two siblings: Mia and Jacob. It’s not an uncommon arrangement when a dad goes to work and trusts his two siblings to look after his kid, especially when the nature of his work is dangerous.
3. Hernan Reyes seeing potential in his son, Dante
Although a flashback in Fast X, Dante talks about how his father saw his potential. Despite being a sociopath, he praised his father for seeing how capable he was in continuing the Reyes Family cartel.
4. Dom focusing on Little B’s safety as his priority
Dom’s made a few enemies because of his work but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t have backup plans to safeguard Little B. Even his son is aware of what to do when things get bad. Throughout the Fast X movie, even when Dante captures him, Dom pushes his driving skills to the limit — dragging along two helicopters to get Little B back.
5. Every father’s fear: losing their kid
“But dad, you’re not afraid of anything,” protests Little B.
Although Dom chose not to answer his son directly, he reveals to his wife, Letty, that he was afraid of losing his son. Fathers will never reveal that fear directly to their kids but it’s a common one nevertheless that all dads face.
6. A brotherhood in fatherhood
Vin Diesel’s character, Dominic Torretto, and Paul Walker’s character, Brian O’Conner, reflect the friendship they have in real life. Besides Dom naming his son after him, he also keeps a few photos in the garage where he cherishes the different moments he had with his brother-in-law.
7. Acknowledging a child taking on their father’s mantle
Brie Larson plays Tess, the daughter of Mr. Nobody — the group’s handler. She breaks Letty out and assists Dom in escaping or understanding Dante’s attempts to “make him suffer.” After Dante escapes, Dom tells Tess that her father would have been proud — something Mr. Nobody would have told her if he were there.
8. Getting that incredible confidence boost when your child trusts you
Most of the situations that Dom finds himself in Fast X are almost impossible to escape from. But when Brian tells him he “has faith,” Dom pulls off many impossible stunts, including escaping a large explosion by racing down a dam. When your child has that much faith in you, it’s impossible not to achieve.
9. A dad always keeps his promise
No parent wants to break their promises to their child. No matter how dangerous it gets, Dom assures Brian that he will not break his promise to him. Even in the midst of a high-speed car chase, Dom takes that opportunity to continue Brian’s driving lessons.
10. “Keep it together.”
Dealing with someone as twisted as Dante Reyes can frustrate someone, especially when the family is involved. But as a dad, Dom doesn’t have that liberty. He needs to keep it together if he wants to pull his family out, alive.
