Bathroom Basics: Must-Haves To Maintain A Clean Bathroom
While we love the privacy a bathroom provides us, we also have to maintain it! Here are some must-haves to make sure it stays clean.
Next to the kitchen, the bathroom is the next potential spot for germs and bugs. With it constantly exposed to moisture, it’s one of those rooms that need to be cleaned daily. Yes, you heard us — everyday. Some materials degrade because they’re exposed to water so keeping one of our bathroom clean and dry is a must. Plus, with all the people coming in and out, who knows what they bring?
But don’t worry, we’ve found some tools that can make that a whole lot easier.
1. A window wiper
Nowadays, the bathroom design trend has shower doors made out of glass. Unfortunately, it’s prone to water stains especially if the water’s hard and has a lot of metals in it. Keep it clean by using a window wiper to brush off the water sliding down the glass. What some moms even do is they use dishwashing soap to clean the glass before washing it down and wiping it with the window wiper.
2. Spin dry mop
If you live with family members who somehow can turn a shower into an Olympic pool and wet the whole bathroom, a spin-dry mop’s there to make sure the water doesn’t seep into the tile’s grouts or the vinyl floors. This nifty necessity comes with its own bucket and a spinner (akin to a salad spinner) to dry up the mop. The water from the mop can be thrown into the toilet or some even put it in the toilet’s water closet.
3. A trash can
Most especially for our daughters who have their periods, having a trash can at least spares them from the possibility of bleeding onto the bathroom floors and anywhere else. It also prevents people from throwing tissue into the toilet bowl which is one of the main causes of clogged toilets. That, and also falling hair. If the family is prone to falling hair or if we have a shedding furbaby, the trash can is right next to the shower to prevent messing up the drainages and the pipes.
4. Plunger and toilet brush
If ever we find our toilets clogged, plungers are a must. It may look unsightly but hiding it behind the toilet will at least make sure we can unclog the toilets. Although some plumbers recommend pouring hot water down the toilet to unclog toilets, plungers are a godsend when the blockage won’t melt.
It’ll also spare us from pouring liquid sosa down the toilet which can also melt through the plumbing after constant use.
5. A spray bottle with dish soap and water
When there’s no glass cleaner, dish soap and water can do the job too! Fill a spray bottle with dish soap and water and we can use it to clean everything and anything. Since dish soap was formulated to clean ceramics, cast iron, steel, and glass, it can probably work with tiles and mirrors too.
6. A plastic shelves
Why plastic? Unlike steel or metal which can rust due to bathroom moisture, plastic is also lighter and easier to clean. Plus, it doesn’t need screws to hold it together. These are actually easy to find in the home department or any houseware store and some of them even come with wheels. Usually, the plastic shelves are in the form of baskets which we can easily wipe down with tissue when they’re dirty.
Making bathroom cleaning efficient and easy
Nobody likes cleaning the bathroom but it’s a must unless we want to fight all the mold and be a breeding ground for bugs. Especially for those who don’t have household help at home, these essentials at least make it easier to keep up with the elements that may potentially destroy our bathrooms. Even more so if we live in a condo — without the open air and heat, we need to step up our game in keeping it clean.
