6 Side Dishes To Make For Thanksgiving

it’s not just the turkey that is served on Thanksgiving. It would not be a feast without side dishes

When people think of Thanksgiving, turkey or ham is the first thing in their mind. But what would the main course be without side dishes?

Celebrating Thanksgiving has evolved, and the dishes have expanded thanks to family tradition and culture. We list six side dishes you can buy or make as you celebrate the holidays. And no, it does not have to be Thanksgiving to cook!

Casseroles

Casseroles are one of the many side dishes you can make. It can be a vegetarian casserole, a cheese casserole, or potato based.

Cornbread

One of the side dishes associated with Thanksgiving is cornbread. You can bake, air fry it, or do it in a cast iron pan. Traditionally, cornbread is part of the Southern dishes and the best part is there are so many recipes online you can follow that are easy.

An alternative to cornbread? You can also make biscuits.

Stuffing

What is a turkey without its stuffing? You can make stuffing with vegetables, some extra meat, or even seafood. I love having vegetables like mushrooms and carrots. You can also make stuffing as a casserole.

Potato dish

Another staple during a Thanksgiving feast is a potato dish. From stuffed potatoes, baked potatoes, and mashed potatoes to gratin. It’s said that potatoes were part of the first gathering, hence being part of the tradition to have a potato dish.

Salad

Thanksgiving is about celebrating the bountiful harvest, and vegetables are a staple. For many, salads are the starters to a meal. Some salads to try are coleslaw, Cesar salad, and potato salad.

Cranberry

Don’t forget the sauce and in this case, it’s cranberry! Cranberry can either be made or bought in a can and just put it on the side.

Cranberry has also become part of salads and desserts. If you’re not a fan of cranberry you can always make your gravy to dunk the turkey or biscuit.

Bonus to put on the table: Any dessert you want!

Desserts for Thanksgiving vary. It can be ice cream, cake, or any pie. Some pies to recommend are apple pie, pecan pie, and pumpkin pie. Depending on your family’s tradition, you would want dessert after all that turkey!

This holiday season, start getting yourself psyched up for cooking. It’s a lot to do but nothing beats bonding with your family over food.
