Student Beep Cards with 50% Discount Rolling Out in September
Starting in September, students will be eligible for a 50% discount on rides on LRT-1, LRT-2, and MRT-3. No forms, no long lines, tap and go
The Department of Transportation (DOTr) announced on August 13 that discounted Beep cards will be available next month, easing the burden of daily commutes for students and their families.
“Kabilin-bilinan ng Pangulo na dapat ang biyahe ng ating mga studyante ay mabilis at convenient para hindi sila nale-late sa klase. Starting September, hindi na sila mahihirapan,” said Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon, during a visit to the LRT-2 Antipolo station.

Personalized Beep Cards for Students
These personalized Beep cards will be printed on the spot at any station once a student presents a valid school ID. The cards are renewable every school year, ensuring continuous access to the fare discount.
“Pupunta lang sila sa kahit anong station next month, ipapakita ang ID at ipi-print ang beep card right then and there. Ire-renew lang nila ‘yan every after school year,” he said.
Alongside students, senior citizens, and persons with disabilities (PWDs) can start availing of the white Beep card, which offers the same convenience and ease. No more manual form-filling required.
In addition, Dizon announced that an extra batch of Beep cards will be distributed starting next week for commuters.

No More Long Lines or Paperwork
In previous years, passengers had to fill out forms manually to apply for discounted cards. Now, that step is being removed entirely.
“Sinilip ko kanina ‘yung estudyanteng nag-fill out ng form, inabot ng kulang-kulang 1 hanggang 1 minute 30 seconds para lang sa form. Sayang ‘yung oras ng estudyante at ng ibang pasahero,” Dizon noted.
The DOTr is coordinating with the Commission on Audit to fully digitize the process, aiming to streamline commuter services across the board.
With many families spending ₱100 to ₱200 per day on transportation, this discount is more than a financial break—it’s peace of mind.
Beyond the savings, it also lessens morning chaos, reduces wait times, and makes getting to school faster and easier for students.
