Bb. Pilipinas International 2023 Angelica Lopez’s Answer Resonates With Every Child

In her final question, Palawan’s Angelica Lopez was asked as a Binibini how she will walk the talk beyond self-promotion.

A new Binibining Pilipinas was crowned on Sunday, May 28. Palawan’s Angelica Lopez nabbed the right to represent the Philippines in the Miss International competition happening in 2024.

The 22-year-old Palaweña succeeded Nicole Borromeo. Nicole will be competing for the country’s 7th Miss International in Japan this year. But more than Angelica’s beauty, her answer to the final question resonated with the audience, mentioning how her late mom inspired her to pursue her dreams.

The answer that won everyone’s hearts

Manila Mayor Honey Lacuña asked what makes her a Binibini who walks the talk and goes beyond self-promotion. In her answer, Angelica gave tribute to her mom, who would have celebrated her birthday on May 29.

“I stand here tonight because it is my mother who instilled in me the value and morals that I am using to be the woman that I am now today. A woman who has the strength, courage, and tenacity. The strength to decide for herself what she wants [and] really works hard to achieve it.”

“To have the courage to face any obstacles of life and [the] tenacity to hold her wisdom of choice. And I believe that it’s always been a dream come true of mine to be here. And that’s why I am a Binibini that I’m always meant to be.”

The answer would eventually lead Angelica to walk with the Bb. Pilipinas International crown, the biggest crown in the competition.

Angelica’s life story

In an interview with ABS-CBN’s Mario Dumaual after the finals, Angelica, who first joined Miss Universe Philippines last year and later competed in another contest, Miss Asia Global, shared a bit of her life story.

“At the age of 14, I already knew how to work really really hard. As a dishwasher and a waitress,” she shared. “I used to come with my mother to her workplace. My mother always taught me to earn money and save money. And it really turned me into the resilient, independent woman that I am today. That’s one thing I want to pass on to the next generation. Because I think it’s very important to know this.”

Additionally, Angelica mentioned the victory was for her mom.

Mom would have been proud

Angelica’s mom may have passed away before she could see her daughter’s special night. But this did not stop Angelica from reaching her dream. In fact, she used it to motivate her.

With one year to prepare for the 2024 edition, Angelica Lopez definitely has a lot of prepping to do.
