Bindi Sue Irwin Hopes to Continue Raising Awareness for Endometriosis

The Endometriosis Foundation of America rewards Bindi Irwin for her work to spread awareness about the condition.

Bindi Sue Irwin was given the 2024 EndoFound Blossom Award by the Endometriosis Foundation of America for raising awareness of the condition.

On Instagram, the daughter of the late environmental conservationist Steve Irwin wrote that it was honor to receive the award and that she hopes more will learn about the condition.

“I am accepting this tremendous honor on behalf of every person that has been affected by endometriosis,” Bindi said. “For everyone who has spent years feeling dismissed, unseen, and undiagnosed. I am also accepting this award on behalf of every family member and friend who stands by their loved one battling with endometriosis, desperately searching for answers alongside them.”

Bindi continued by saying she hopes her story will help others.

“While I am deeply humbled to be part of such an important night, a year on from my surgery, I am here on behalf of the millions of my fellow women and girls who are drowning in their pain caused by this devastating disease. After sharing my story, I have heard countless stories from others battling with this disease. I am reminded just how strong the human body and spirit can be.”

“I will spend the rest of my life trying to raise awareness. Hopefully, this will help others who are fighting insurmountable personal battles with endometriosis.”

Bindi Irwin: Educating is important

The mother of one also said that her heart goes out to those who are suffering form the condition and could not undergo the surgery.

“We need to urge the individuals suffering with endometriosis to keep searching for answers. Not to give up on themselves. I know from experience that there is a desperate need for more education in the medical community about endometriosis.”

She wrapped up her message with an encouragement to other women suffering from the disease, reminding them that they are not alone. “I hope that my story may give others the validation that their pain is real and they deserve answers, support, and treatment.”

Bindi Irwin: I Can Smile Again

During the event where she received the award, Bindi said she was able to smile again after the operation.

“I hated looking in the mirror, because all I could see was the pain and I felt like I had lost myself,” she told the audience as reported by People.

“And now I feel like I’m gaining my sense of self again,” she continued. “I’m realizing that I am so much more than my pain, and that’s something we all have to remember.”

A Reminder On Pregnancy from Bindi

Last year, Bindi spoke about experiencing endometriosis, reminding people to be sensitive about women who go through pregnancy and birth.

“Please be gentle and pause before asking me (or any woman) when we’ll be having more children,” she advised. “After all that my body has gone through, I feel tremendously grateful that we have our gorgeous daughter. She feels like our family’s miracle.”

Bindi Irwin shares one child, a daughter, Grace born in 2012 with her husband Chandler Powell. She is a known conservationist and has appeared on television in shows such as Dancing with the Stars and Crikey! It’s the Irwins.
