Chito Miranda: Counting Their Blessings

Despite difficulties faced by his family during the pandemic, Chito Miranda remains focused on the positive experiences

A grueling gig schedule pre-pandemic had Parokya ni Edgar’s Chito Miranda away from home for long periods. And while he enjoyed playing live gigs, it was understandably difficult to be away from his wife Neri and son Miggy. The pandemic, however, canceled many planned performances. And this became an opportunity for him to spend more time with his family.

Chito acknowledges that while there have been many unfortunate consequences (businesses closing, losing live gigs, and being unable to travel as much as they used to), there have been a lot of blessings as well. For one, more time at home meant not having to worry about band bookings. And instead, he gets to bond with his wife and son. “I enjoy being able to play with Miggy the whole day or just hanging out with Neri while helping her out with her businesses. Mas naging hands-on din ako sa mga businesses ko outside Parokya,” he shares.

And while the band frontman has ever been passionate about playing in front of crowds, Chito admits enjoying working at home “After playing a gig, you just have to put away your laptop and go back to bed,” he says with a laugh. But to make things work, he relies on his and Neri’s efficient dynamics when it comes to running their household.

Maginhawa food spot favorite Tomato Kick and laundry café Quento in Tandang Sora ended up closing due to the pandemic. 12 Monkeys, on the other hand, was able to return, until another lockdown forced the rock bistro to cease operations till further notice. Still, Chito and Neri have been smart when it comes to money matters. Aside from Chito’s businesses, Neri also has her own set of businesses: Naig’s Not So Secret Garden, Naig’s Gourmet Tuyo, Ang Paboritong Suka ng Asawa Ko, The Wais Planner, Naig’s Bakeshop, Very Naig Beddings, Very Naig Sleepwear, Very Naig Wedding Gowns, Accessories, Naig’s Cottage, and the Miranda’s Rest House( which Chito co-owns) And in on top of these, the couple has a bunch of real estate rentals as well.

Having been more exposed to the inner workings of their home, has nothing but words of admiration for his wife, “Seriously, having a great tag team partner is crucial. Neri is very busy with her businesses so I try my best to help out by spending more time with Miggy so she’d have more time for herself. She does the same for me when I’m the one busy with work. We just try our best to help each other out. It’s all about time management, teamwork, and knowing your priorities.”

In this more relaxed pace, Chito reflects on what truly matters for his family. He says, “Nagkaroon kami ng deeper appreciation for the simple things in life that we used to take for granted.” And while playing beside bandmates may have to wait, he relishes the time spent with two of his most cherished blessings.
