It’s that time of the year again! As shops and villages slowly resume celebrating Halloween, there are some families who prefer to sit on a couch and just binge-watch horror movies. And with so many films to watch, nothing beats the classics. Check out these classic Halloween movie recommendations for the whole family to watch! You might even find yourself sleeping next to your parents or siblings for the time being.

Classic Halloween Movies

Psycho

No Halloween film festival would be complete without watching one of the most classic films by Alfred Hitchock. Remember that infamous shower scene where Marion Crane (Janet Leigh) gets killed with an eerie sound? A lot of people haven’t forgotten that scene through the years.

Janet Leigh isn’t the only one who would star in a horror film. Daughter Jamie Lee Curtis would follow her mom in becoming part of another horror slasher franchise – Halloween.

The Exorcist

The Exorcist was a 1973 film starring a young Linda Blair who played a girl possessed by a demonic force. The film drew mixed reactions from the audience back then because of its graphic showing of vomiting and masturbation with a Crucifix.

The film would also span its own sequels.

Halloween franchise

The first Halloween movie aired in 1978 and stars Jamie Lee Curtis. The movie is based on a mental patient named Michael Myers, who killed his sister on Halloween while babysitting. After escaping the mental institute, Myers stalks Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis). The film would become the start of the franchise as Myers hunts Laurie after.

The franchise would have 12 more films and a remake.

Poltergeist

The 1982 film tells the story of a young girl who gets fixated on the television and a white hand emerges. The young girl and her family would later discover that the area they live in was previously a cemetery.

The Shining

Considered one of the best horror films, The Shining stars Jack Nicholson in the role of a writer turned madman Jack Torrance. If you’ve been seeing that scene of twins while a kid was biking in the hallway of the hotel, then that scene is from the film!

Scream franchise

The ’90s would not be complete without Wes Craven’s Scream, which made Neve Campbell its star alongside Courtney Cox and David Arquette. The film follows the life of Sidney Prescott, whose mother was murdered. She deals with a killer who will stop at nothing to terrorize the people around her by playing a game that includes horror films. The movie would have four more sequels, with a new one scheduled in 2023.
