D23 2025 Highlights: What Disney and Pixar Films Families Can Look Forward To

Everything parents need to know about the latest D23 announcements — including what’s coming to theaters and streaming through 2027

There’s a lot for families to look forward to as Disney unveiled its upcoming slate of animated films and sequels at the 2025 D23 Expo, held August 29–31 in Florida. Fans got a first look at beloved returning characters, exciting new stories, and tech-powered adventures that are coming to cinemas and streaming soon.

Here’s a year-by-year breakdown of what’s coming:

2025

Zootopia 2 – November 2025 (Theatrical)

The animal metropolis is back in action! In this much-anticipated sequel, rookie cops Judy Hopps (Ginnifer Goodwin) and Nick Wilde (Jason Bateman) are hot on the trail of their latest suspect, Gary De’Snake (voiced by Ke Huy Quan). The case pushes the duo to go undercover — and tests their dynamic as partners.

2026

Toy Story 5 – June 19, 2026 (Theatrical)

The toys are back — and facing their biggest challenge yet: technology. A three-minute exclusive sneak peek gave fans a glimpse of Woody, Buzz, and the gang navigating a fast-changing world.

In celebration of the original Toy Story, the 1995 classic will also be re-released in U.S. theaters ahead of the new film’s premiere.

Hoppers – March 26, 2026 (Theatrical)

This original Pixar story follows Mabel, a nature-loving college student determined to protect the wildlife she’s bonded with — even if it means clashing with her city’s tech-obsessed mayor. When Mabel uses an experimental device to “hop” into the body of a robotic beaver, a wild (and likely hilarious) adventure begins.

Hexed – 2026 (Release date TBA)

A new magical tale from Disney Animation Studios, Hexed centers on an awkward teenage boy and his single mom, whose lives are flipped upside down after a mysterious magical event. Expect heart, humor, and plenty of enchanting surprises in this original film.

2027

Ice Age: Boiling Point – February 2027 (Theatrical)

The Ice Age gang is back! Manny, Sid, Diego, Ellie, and Scrat return for another prehistoric adventure — this time navigating the perilous terrain of the Lost World. Expect big laughs, bigger action, and classic Ice Age charm.

Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Last Straw – Release date TBA (Disney+)

Greg Heffley returns in this new animated installment, coming soon to Disney+. No release date yet, but fans of the books will want to stay tuned.

Why Families Need to Know

From nostalgic sequels to original adventures, Disney and Pixar continue to deliver stories that offer more than entertainment. Themes of friendship, courage, environmental awareness, and magical transformation give parents and kids plenty to connect over — both in the theater and at home.
