LIST: DIY Halloween Costume Ideas for Kids
If we’re not ready to invest in a costume, here are some DIY Halloween costume ideas for kids.
With Halloween around the corner, some of us may be scrambling for a costume that will make trick-or-treating memorable for the kids. Some of us have already scheduled a trip to the mall or park for the upcoming trick-or-treat events but we also want a costume that our kids can feel comfortable in after the event. So here are some DIY Halloween costume ideas for kids to make Halloween memorable but comfortable too!
1. Black Cat
One of the easiest DIY Halloween Costume Ideas for kids — grab some eyeliner or face paint before drawing some whiskers and adding bit of a line to create the “cat’s eye.” Then, if we have extra headbands, we can use cardboard to create the cat ears. For those who already have cat-themed headphones, they can use that too.
2. Super Spy
Decked out in all black and a pair of shades, kids would look cool in their super spy costume. It’s just a monochrome outfit — a black top, pants, and rubber shoes. Most spies don’t even carry fancy weapons on them and espionage is all about getting creative. We can even make a sports watch can pretend to hide a taser in it.
3. Fairy
Want to make the most out of the cute, fluffy, and shiny dress we impulsively bought for our daughters? Now’s the chance to do so! All we need now is to make a wand which can be done with a chopstick and paper star and a fairy crown out of a pretty hairband.
4. Slenderman
For those who played the old horror game Slenderman, the costume is actually quite DIY-able. All our kids need is a black blazer, white button up, and black pants. Then, they can wear their black school shoes before donning the white faceless mask that made the namesake character so terrifying.
5. Cookie
Cut two illustration boards into circles and paint a cookie pattern. It can be any cookie; it doesn’t have to always be chocolate chip. We can paint it like oatmeal, white macadamia, red velvet, or even matcha white chocolate. To make sure our kids can wear it, poke holes through the cardboard and thread some thick straw or string to form straps that hang the costume over their shoulders.
6. White Lady
Even Philippine ghost stories have something to offer! The famed and notorious white lady has a pretty simple look: a white dress and messy hair. Parents can also take it up a notch by adding some baby powder on their kids’ hair so they look more ghostly. And if our kids love to scream, we can even say they’re a banshee for Halloween.
When DIY Halloween costume ideas for kids are good for last minute changes
We know the drill; our kids’ minds change so fast that the Halloween costume they loved months ago can be their most hated and will want to change it into something else. But we don’t want to go shopping for a new one, especially when the spooky holiday is already around the corner! So, we just have to get creative but it’s nothing a little glue and tape can’t make. Besides, the kids can help out making it too since they’re the ones who changed their minds about their Halloween costumes!
