Mother’s Day is hands down my favorite celebration.

There’s just something about the energy of the month of May that always feels supercharged. As a mom of six who is also running a parenting media brand, it’s a month packed to the brim with activities. It’s exciting, hectic, meaningful, and if I’m being honest, a little overwhelming.

This past year has stretched me in ways I didn’t expect. There have been moments of unexpected detours and the kind of emotional and mental labor that doesn’t come with a manual (Hello perimenopause!). I’ve learned that as a working mom, there are seasons when you don’t get the luxury of pausing. You just have to keep moving because everyone needs you and the deadlines don’t wait. And so, like most mothers I know, I’ve kept showing up—not always gracefully, but consistently.

Because that’s what we do—we carry on, we adjust, and we find strength in the most unexpected places.

I’ve been reflecting and having conversations with other moms about the “motherload.” It’s not a new concept, but it’s one that has followed me through every season for the last 25 years. It’s that running list in my head that never really shuts off, it’s the mental balancing act, the quiet worrying that hums in the background and that rarely gets talked about—but we all know it’s there.

For someone like me with grown kids, the list doesn’t disappear, it just shape-shifts. It’s second-guessing if I gave them the right advice, it’s the prayers whispered in silence, the late-night wondering what they’re doing the next day, if they’ve eaten, if they’re okay, and if they’re truly happy.

What’s In The Issue

For the Mother’s Day and Father’s Day 2025 issue of Modern Parenting, we’re shining a light on the often unseen, behind-the-scenes work of mothers (and fathers) everywhere. It is anchored in holistic wellness, and that’s exactly what this moment in parenthood is all about—to remind us that we are still whole. Inside these pages, you’ll find stories of the everyday heroes.

The Wellness and You section features parents navigating their own mental well-being and physical health, redefining what self-care really means, juggling day-to-day decisions and coping with the deeper emotional “stuff” that don’t always have names.

You’ll also hear from moms and dads in our Parents’ Playbook, sharing practical ways they’ve made life a little more manageable and more aligned with the unique needs of their families. We hope their stories inspire you to find what works for you, too, because parenting was never meant to be one-size-fits-all.

And oh, do we have a Real Talk section for you. We sat down for raw, honest conversations with two incredible dads who opened up about their stories of heartbreak, healing, and hope. You’ll also meet five amazing Grab mom drivers, each one carrying the weight of motherhood and livelihood with grit and grace.

Headlining this issue are two power couples we deeply admire—Drs. Z and Aivee Teo of The Aivee Group, and actress Maja Salvador with her husband, entrepreneur Rambo Nuñez. These four, all dear friends with one another, generously gave us a glimpse into their lives and their thoughts, and let us in on the parenting seasons they’re in. They talk about how they’re balancing career, family, and personal wellness—and how they continue to hold space for each other through it all.

You Are More Than Enough

My six grown children, now young adults standing on the edge of their own journeys, are ready to take flight. And here I am, watching from the sidelines with a full heart and tearful eyes. With one foot in active parenting and the other in letting go, I’m learning to trust that I’ve laid the groundwork, that I’ve been enough and that the kids will be alright.

Motherhood has never been just about caring for our children—it’s about holding up the entire sky, often without anyone noticing the strength it takes. No matter how we feel, or what surprises life throws our way, we show up. I’m discovering that wellness for us moms isn’t just long baths, facials and deep breaths (though those help). It’s learning how to release the loads we’ve carried for so long.

Wherever you are in your motherhood journey—whether you’re up all night nursing a baby, in the thick of toddlerhood, guiding teens, or like me, learning to parent while letting go—I hope this issue reminds you that you are not alone. That your efforts truly matter. That you are seen!

Love and light,
Marga Tupaz
