EXCLUSIVE: Danika Nemis on Lily Bloom: “We Wanted Luna to Be a Big Sister.”
In an exclusive interview with Modern Parenting, beach parents Danika Nemis and Luke Landrigan shared the story of welcoming their daughter, Lily Bloom, last June 11, 2023.
After an ectopic pregnancy and failed IVF attempts, the dream of giving Luna a sister now feels more like a miracle to Danika Nemis and Luke Landrigan when they welcomed their newborn daughter, Lily Bloom, last June 11, 2023. “[After an ectopic pregnancy and a failed IVF journey] I started thinking what if I was not meant to have another baby?” confides Danika. “But as I hold her [Lily Bloom] in my arms, I am reminded again of how miracles are real.”
Danika: “The hardships were worth it.”
After receiving news from the fertility doctor that her chances to conceive were slim, Danika looks back and sees how all the hardship was worth it as she looks into the eyes of her newborn daughter. “I look back at how hard this journey was for me. But all of the heaviness is now washed away by happiness,” she reflects. “Lily Bloom reminds me of how strong I am and how strong my faith is. And how love is the strongest force of all. I know it hasn’t been that long but life is already much, much sweeter because of this.”
As for the origin of Lily Bloom’s name, the honor was Luna’s in naming her younger sister.
“We asked Luna to name her little sister and she said she wanted a short but pretty name that also started with an L, like Luna and Luke. Around this time, lily flowers were in bloom and it was as if the perfect name had come to us: Lily Bloom,” Danika recalls, slightly tearing up. “I always get emotional when I see her sisterly instincts kick in. Luna has been such a big help to me while I was pregnant and even now that I have given birth. Thank you, my Ate Luna.”

While the blue waters and the golden sun have always been a source of comfort and joy for the Nemis-Landrigan family, Lily Bloom adds more to that now. As Luna embraces her duties as a big sister, Danika, and Luke are reminded more of how dreams are miraculous in their own way. Lily Bloom’s namesake flower, interestingly, symbolizes “love and devotion,” feelings that her whole family has for her.
