How Menstrual Pants Are the Answer to All Our Period Problems
When our period’s flow gets too strong, sometimes, it’s better to just invest in menstrual pants.
Although there are sanitary napkins that can accommodate heavy flows, sometimes, menstrual pants do a better job. It’s less prone to leakage, and a little more fitted, and some don’t use plastic—making those allergic to it less prone to rashes.
And while there are disposable ones available, some brands have adopted a more sustainable approach: reusable but with materials that make dealing with red days a lot easier. Here are other reasons why menstrual pants can help solve all our period problems:
4 Reasons Why Menstrual Pants Work, Period
1. Reduces fear of staining.
A woman’s biggest nightmare when she has her period is staining furniture in public or a friend’s home. That usually happens when the napkins are “full” to the point that they already overflow. Menstrual pants have better soaking capabilities and some brands, like Mirko and Ecoflow, use moisture-wicking materials to keep you feeling safe and dry.
2. Feels a little less invasive than other options.
Tampons and menstrual cups have a bit of a learning curve since it takes a while to learn how to ease into them. But with menstrual pants, it’s like putting on typical underwear. The only difference between typical and menstrual pants is maintaining the underwear such as using soap or highly diluted laundry soap to wash them so it doesn’t destroy the material.
3. More sustainable in the long run!
Personal care is one of the biggest culprits in household waste but, as women, it’s difficult to reduce our usage—because frequent changing helps prevent bad odors and infections. And while sanitary napkins do the job of catching blood and other discharges, their being made of plastic or being wrapped in plastic makes them bad for the environment.
Mirko’s and Ecoflo’s menstrual pants are just some of the many menstrual brands that can be cleaned and reused because they are made of cotton. It’s a one-time unwrapping for several period cycles’ worth of comfort.
4. More storage saving.
At home, we have a plastic drawer or container that has all our menstrual essentials: hot water bottles, towels, extra underwear, painkillers, intimate wash, packs, and more packs of sanitary napkins, especially for those heavy days. With reusable menstrual pants, it can quickly shrink that drawer into a small corner in the bathroom since they’ll be hanging out to dry so we can use it again.
Bleeding Unfortunately Happens Often for Women
Whether it’s our period or post-partum bleeding, menstrual pants make the experience a little more comfortable. Instead of making us worry if our napkins are soaking up everything, these will at least cover almost all the common parts where we usually stain our underwear.
Although it may be a little expensive on the first use, consider it an investment. If we’re spending already thousands of pesos for sanitary napkins every month then, maybe give menstrual pants a try and see if it can reduce costs.
What some women also do is that they slowly ease into it by using both: bring extra underwear with napkins while wearing menstrual pants. But there may be rarely an occasion wherein those back-ups may be used.
