Jodi Sta. Maria Takes Culinary Lessons: “No One Can Take Learning Away From You.”

“The beautiful thing about learning is that no one can take it from you.” – Jodi Sta. Maria

Everyone expects women who become wives and moms to instantly know how to work in the kitchen. But, there should be no shame for those who are learning how to work in the kitchen only when they’re much older. Celebrity mom Jodi Sta. Maria revealed that she’s recently started taking cooking lessons at the Center of Asian Culinary Studies to unlock new skills, also posting an encouraging message: “The beautiful thing about learning is that no one can take it from you.”

Many expect that once a person becomes a parent, they suddenly know everything and are right about everything. But that can’t be the case unless they’re God! As parents, we’re also human beings. We don’t know everything and it’s impossible to be right about everything, too! And Jodi discovered that firsthand when she began making mayonnaise during her class. “Making mayonnaise from scratch. Never realized na hindi pala siya madali. This was actually a proud moment for me,” she writes, adding that those who have whisked the common condiment by hand will understand the effort gone into making it.

Another thing we can learn from her experience is how stress can show itself when we try to do something. For the culinary arts, it shows in the plating. “Plating 😊 Dapat may art!
And wag ma-stress kasi mase-stress ang pagkain 😁 A wonderful reminder from Chef China,” Jodi adds while thanking Chef China Cojuangco who worked together with her husband, Chef Gino, during the culinary class.

There’s no shame in being a Lifelong Learner.

We’ll never understand why some people expect parents to be perfect and know everything all the time. A human, on average, can live up to 70 to 80 years which means they have a lot of time to learn. With things constantly changing, that means there’s always something new to learn as well. And with something as concrete as culinary, there’s that heartwarming sense of achievement after cooking and plating a work of art. Good luck with your classes, Jodi! There are a lot of flavors to explore!
