Juliana Gomez Rises as 2023 UAAP Fencing Champion
Director and celebrity dad Richard Gomez has been very supportive of his daughter, Juliana’s, fencing career.
Director and celebrity dad Richard Gomez is one proud dad, posting his daughter, Juliana Gomez’s win against La Salle’s Vergara in the grand final for Epee in fencing. Not only does she have a Bronze medal from the Mohin Fencing Minime & Open 2023 and a gold medal from the 2022 West Java Fencing Challenge, she now has another medal to hang on the wall as UAAP Fencing Champion in Epee. As she lays the last shot, Richard catches a moment of her crying for joy as she lands the final blow that bags her the gold.
It’s a big thing, especially if she plans to go big with her fencing career in the future.

A former representative himself back in the 1995 SEA games for fencing, Richard Gomez is now his unica hija’s cheerleader. Despite the busy schedule both politics and the entertainment industry have for him, he supports her any way he can and makes time to attend her tournaments, record the fights, and also supports her teammates. He writes under the reel, “Hard work and understanding of the game has set in.”

Sometimes, he even trains with her himself! Fencing has become their bonding time with one another, adding how grateful he is to still train with her in honing her skills with the Epee.
As a student-athlete, it’s hard, especially when trying to finish college. Juliana Gomez, in the UAAP, is currently representing the University of the Philippines.

Epee, unlike Saber and Foil, has a unique set of rules, which some fencers consider a lot harder than the other two sword divisions. It requires her to be quick and to be the faster fighter, which takes a lot of training to build up that reaction time. As once a representative for the fencing team himself, Richard Gomez knows the thrill and is more than happy to celebrate the joy of winning that gold and title with Juliana.
