The Philippine Women’s National Football Team Paves Way For Aspiring Filipino Footballers

Stunning Thailand with their impressive play, the Philippine Women’s National Football Team bags the gold and their first-ever world championship title with a score of 3-0 at the Rizal Stadium on July 17, 2022, Sunday.
The three goals started off with Jessika Cowart and Katrina Gillou setting up for the first 2 points. Meanwhile, Sarina Bolden sealed the deal with the last goal. It was a historic win not just for the Philippines but for Filipinas—both young and old—everywhere.
“Spirit and Determination made this team.”
Philippine head coach Alen Stajcic beams with pride for the women who have become beacons of inspiration. Their win also caused a ripple effect that made football “alive” again in the Philippines.
“For them to get through this grueling schedule—to finish like that with so much spirit and determination is a testament to this team [Philippine Women’s National Football Team],” he shares during an interview. “We climbed a little hill tonight. We conquered Southeast Asia, but I know there are big mountains ahead. It is a great hill to climb and there are bigger challenges ahead of us.”
