What Kids Can Learn from the Journeys of P-Pop Groups YARA and 6SENSE

P-Pop emerging groups YARA and 6SENSE are two of the many acts performing at this year’s P-Pop Convention.

The rise of P-Pop (Pinoy Pop) music has been gaining momentum in recent years thanks to the success of SB19, MNL48, BINI, and BGYO. More groups are debuting in the music scene and two new groups, YARA and 6SENSE, are joining the growing list of names to watch out for.

YARA is a four-girl group composed of members Rocher, Gelou, Kim, and Christa. 6SENSE, on the other hand, is a boy group composed of members Wiji, Pen, Drew, Saki, Jai, and Sevi.

Lessons from their journey as artists

During an exclusive interview with the two groups after their performance at the P-Pop Convention mall tour in Farmers Plaza, they believe that kids who look up to them and have been listening to their music can learn a lot from their respective journeys in the music scene.

“Don’t be afraid to be different,” Rocher advises. “Kasi every individual naman is unique. Hindi natin kailangan i-please lahat. Basta na-eenjoy mo yung ginagawa mo, gawin mo na lang ng gawin.”

“At tsaka dito sa music industry, sabi nga ng song ng SB19, hindi naman tayo perfect,” Gelou added. “Kailangan natin ipakita kung sino tayo kasi iyon yung magiging identity mo as an artist. Wala din kasing formula para maging successful ka or sikat ka. So kailangan lang maging relatable ka sa tao at sobrang genuine yung ginagawa mo. Sa daming pinagdadanan ng tao sure ako na ano pinagdadanan mo pinadadaanan nila.”

6SENSE member Wiji is aware that many children look up to them but they themselves as a group also look up to the kids.

“Growing up, wala kaming nakikitang ganitong image. And we want to be that person that we didn’t have nung mga bata kami,” he shares. “Yung image na kinalakihan ko personally hindi talaga siya nakikita sa TV.”

“So gusto ko yung maging someone na nakikita ng mga maliliit na bata na uy, kaya ko pala maging ganyan.”

Thanking their seniors

The two groups are thankful that the likes of SB19, MNL48, BINI, and BGYO have been doing well, paving the way for them to entertain audiences.

“All the senior groups na nauna sa amin in the P-Pop community I look up to them,” Pen of 6SENSE said. “Lahat sila kung seniors namin ituring.”

“SB19, hindi mawawala yan,” Rocher added. “Sila talaga yung bumubuhay nung P-Pop. Sila yung kumuha ng lahat ng criticisms, yung stereotyping ng mga tao. Tiniis nila iyon. Pero through their hard work, kita niyo naman, unti-unting nag-eemerge ang P-Pop sa Pilipinas”

Excited about the P-Pop Convention

With the P-Pop convention happening this March, both YARA and 6SENSE are already gearing up for their performances. They will join artists such as Mona, Calista, Dione, and Valfer at the New Frontier on March 18. Both groups expressed excitement as they take the stage for the second edition of the P-Pop event.

“We’re busy preparing for our debut and since P-Pop Con, dapat abangan nila yung hinanda naming performance,” Rocher excitedly shared.

“And throughout all these years na nagpeperform kami kung saan-saan, I guess they are going to expect something like mga bagong pakulo during our performance and sana i-anticipate nilang lahat yung prinipare namin,” Gelou added.

For Wiji, the P-Pop Convention is special since he was scouted at last year’s event. “Sobrang thankful. Last year, nasa backstage lang ako [ng P-Pop Convention] at ngayon magpeperform na ako with other P-Pop groups na emerging,” he said.

“So nandoon yung adrenaline, nandoon yung pagiging thankful, at yung humility. Nandoon lahat.”

The P-Pop Convention is happening on March 18 and 19 at the New Frontier Theater and Araneta Coliseum.
