Marvel Brings Back Beloved Heroes in Avengers: Doomsday

Ahead of its 2026 release, Marvel gives families a sneak peek at the heroes coming back to the big screen

Marvel Studios has been steadily building excitement for Avengers: Doomsday, slated for release on December 18, 2026. Through a series of teaser clips, the studio confirmed that several beloved—and very familiar—faces are returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, much to the delight of longtime fans.

Ever since Marvel announced in 2024 that a new Avengers film was officially in the works, anticipation has been sky-high. Add to that the reveal of Robert Downey Jr.’s return—this time as Doctor Doom—and the introduction of the Fantastic Four in 2025, it’s clear Marvel is leaning into both nostalgia and bold new storytelling. Now, with these recent teasers, fans are getting a glimpse of what’s to come.

Steve Rogers Returns

One of the biggest surprises? The return of Steve Rogers.

Chris Evans is officially reprising his role as the original Captain America after passing the shield to Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie). In a teaser released on December 18, Steve is seen riding home—his journey echoing the last time fans saw him, when he chose a life with Peggy Carter. The clip ends on a tender note: Steve holding a baby, widely believed to be his and Peggy’s.

The teaser closes with the simple but powerful line: Steve Rogers will return in Avengers: Doomsday.

Interestingly, the release came just weeks after news broke that Chris Evans himself became a first-time dad. He and his wife, actress Alba Baptista, welcomed their daughter, Alma, in October—making the moment feel even more meaningful for fans who’ve grown up alongside the character.

Thor Returns—Older, Wiser, and Still Fighting

Another teaser, released on December 30, confirmed that Thor (Chris Hemsworth) will also be back.

The clip opens with Thor inside a cabin, sharing a gentle moment with a child as he kisses her on the forehead. But the calm doesn’t last long. Thor is soon seen in the woods, calling upon his ancestors for guidance. Led by his late father, Odin, he asks for the strength to rise once more and return to battle.

It’s a powerful reminder that even gods evolve—and that parenthood and responsibility have clearly shaped this version of Thor.

The X-Men Finally Enter the MCU

Perhaps the most exciting reveal of all: the X-Men are officially joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

In the teaser, Charles Xavier (Patrick Stewart) and Magneto (Ian McKellen) are seen in a chess match, discussing the concept of mortality. The scene then shifts to a battered Cyclops (James Marsden), who removes his ruby visor and unleashes his iconic optic blasts.

The clip ends with confirmation fans have been waiting years for—the X-Men will appear in Avengers: Doomsday.

The Wakandans x Fantastic Four

For its fourth teaser, Marvel gave a glimpse of the meeting of the Wakandans led by Shuri/Black Panther (Letitia Wright) and Ben, aka Thing (Ebon Moss-Bachrach). A brief scene also showed Namor, sitting on a throne.

The Wait Continues

While fans will still have to wait for the full trailer, these short teasers have already delivered plenty of excitement. It’s been a while since Avengers: Endgame, and seeing these characters return feels especially meaningful—particularly for parents who grew up watching them and are now preparing to introduce a new generation to the heroes they once admired.

Avengers: Doomsday may still be months away, but if these teasers are any indication, it’s shaping up to be a cinematic event worth the wait.
