Miley Cyrus’ Disney Legend Speech Reminds Us It’s Okay To Be Scared

Miley Cyrus becomes one of the youngest stars to be given the Disney Legend Award and she admits to feeling scared!

Being a Disney Legend carries responsibility when you are recognized for your work. Last week, a new set of personalities from Star Wars legend Harrison Ford to Wakanda’s Angela Bassett were recognized by Disney for their achievements. Joining them is Hannah Montana star Miley Cyrus, who is the youngest to be recognized as a Disney Legend.

Although flattered and happy about the achievement, Miley’s speech in accepting the award resonated with many. It’s a reminder that it’s okay to be scared.

A little secret from Miley

In her speech, Miley Cyrus let in a little secret, telling the audience at D23, “I’m gonna let everybody in a little Disney Legend secret. I’m the one that tells you what you’re not supposed to know. And what I want to say is that legends get scared, too. I’m scared right now, but the difference is we do it anyway, and all of you can do that every single day.”

She continued, ” It’s legendary to be afraid and do it anyway. There is no such thing as failure when you try. That’s the only way you lose [by not trying]. The way you win is to try.”

The ‘Wrecking Ball” singer admitted she had two speeches ready and went on to thank the people behind the award.

“It’s such an honor to receive this award. My other legends have said it best: It is all because of you, everyone in this room, outside of this room. It’s all about the fans.”

She briefly recalled how she auditioned for Hannah Montana and the waiting game and disappointment. But then she got the good news.

“They want me to come out to L.A. and audition in person. My mom tells me the news but reiterates that if I get it, I’m going to have to leave school and all of my friends,” she shared.

She eventually did the audition and soon flew to Los Angeles to tape Hannah Montana. The rest is history as Miley became a pop star and actress.

Forever grateful to Hannah Montana

Since getting that role, life has changed for Miley but she also pointed out that some has not changed at all. One thing is for sure – she will be forever grateful to the character that has honed her to be now.

“I stand here still proud to have been Hannah Montana because she made Miley in so many ways. This award is dedicated to Hannah and all of her amazing, loyal fans, and to everyone who has made my dream a reality. To quote the legend herself, “This is the life.”

So what does Miley’s speech resonate with many? It’s because of the risks she took and the attitude of not giving up. She admitted being scared and had her share of tabloid moments, but Miley kept on trying and this led her to where she is now in Hollywood.

So for people out there, there is nothing wrong with being scared. it’s normal to scared but take the risk and who knows, the results may just like be Miley’s!
