MRT-3 and LRT-2 Offer Free Rides to Solo Parents on April 20
In celebration of Solo Parents Day on April 20, the LRT and MRT management are offering free rides to single or solo parents at specific times.
Solo or single parents commuting and taking the train are in for a treat on April 20, 2024. The Light Rail Transit Authority (LRT) 2 and MRT-3 announced they are offering free rides at specific times. These rides are available from 7 AM to 9 AM and 5 PM to 7 PM.
In a statement, LRT-2 spokesperson, lawyer Hernando Cabrera said that the free ride allows solo parents leeway. “Tayo po sa LRTA, batin nating ‘yung bigat ng responsibilidad ng mga solo parent. Kaya naman sa pagdiriwan na ito, sana maiparamdam ng LRTA ang aming paghanga at pasasalamat sa inyo sa pamamagitan po ng handog naming libreng sakay.“
Transportation Assistant Secretary for Railways at MRT-3 Officer-in-Charge Jorjette B. Aquino also said that the free ride is their way of giving back.
“Saludo po ang MRT-3 sa lahat ng solo parents na ubos-lakas na nagsasakripisyo upang maitaguyod ang kanilang mga anak. Hangad po namin na sa aming libreng sakay ay mapasaya namin sila sa kanilang espesyal na araw. Nawa po ay maipadama namin sa lahat ng solo parents ang aming paghanga at pagpapahalaga sa kanilang mga sakripisyo.”
All solo parents need to do it present their solo parent’s ID or certificate to avail of the ride.
A little help goes a long way
The free MRT-3 and LRT-2 rides are just one of the many perks solo parents get on April 20 in celebration of Solo Parents Day. According to the Republic Act No. 11861—or the Expanded Solo Parents Welfare Act—every third week and third Saturday of April is Solo Parents Week and National Solo Parents’ Day, respectively.
With transportation becoming expensive, every centavo goes a long way. So for the solo parents out there who have been raising their kids, it’s an opportunity to breathe a little and save some cash—at least for a day.
