Remembering Nanay Lolit
Many of her talents shared their goodbyes via social media. Pauleen Luna-Sotto, one of her longtime talents, shared a photo alongside Solis and her daughter.
“I wish the world saw you how your alagas saw you. A mother, a protector, a fighter and someone who is very loyal. Hindi ka man magaling sa iyong mga salita, ang puso mo naman ay nagsusumabog sa pagmamahal. Hindi ito halata, it took me a while to see it, to feel it, to understand it… kakaiba ka talaga,” she said.
Pauleen recalled the time Solis would ask her for gifts for Christmas and her birthday. The lechon she would ask Pauleen she discovered would be given to people in need to celebrate with her on those occasions.
“Lahat ng mga TV, gadgets, appliances that she would ask for from her alagas, she would donate it to people who needed it. In short, lahat ng hinaharbat nya ay hindi para sakanya. Hindi lang halata, but she had a very big heart,” Pauleen shared.
She credits Solis for opening many opportunities for her, and that she was not just a talent manager but also a mommy to her.
“She was always happy for my family life, and she always celebrated that. She loved my husband, my children, even from afar, and would always tell me so I won’t forget. She was so proud of me when I became a wife and a mother, the best years of my life, and for that, I am truly, truly grateful.”
“You are family, Nanay. 20 years with you is not enough. It breaks my heart that you have left us, but I find comfort in the fact that you are now happy, at peace, and pain free. Til we meet again, Nanay. Mahal na mahal din kita.”
Actress Sandy Andolong, also paid tribute, saying, “We remember Manay Lolit as a feisty and staunch loyal supporter, manager, and friend. We love you, our dearest Nay Lolit, you will be missed.”
Lorna Tolentino, who was also a talent of Solis, shared the same post.
Former Senator Bong Revilla and his son Jolo also recalled their memories of Solis.
“Maraming salamat sa pagmamahal at pagkalinga. You have been a solid rock for me, a staunch defender, and most importantly – a mother who took care of me and my family up to your last days with us,” Bong wrote.
“Salamat sa lahat ng pagmamahal at pagsuporta mo sa aming buong pamilya lalo na kay papa. Salamat sa pagaalaga mo sa akin noong ikaw ay tumayo bilang aking manager noong ako ay artista pa. Lubos po kami nag dadalamhati sa iyong pagkawala. We will miss you nanay, mahal na mahal ka namin,” Jolo said.
One Final Interview
In one of her final interviews with Rolling Stone Philippines, Solis shared why she was not afraid to face death. Solis, who had her fair share of controversies in the past, was having dialysis treatment twice a week before her passing.
“I don’t fear death anymore — basta kailangan maganda lang ang death ko. Sana people remember me with kindness, with a smile. Sure na akong mangyayari ‘yan. Nangyari na ‘yan noong scam e, noong akala ko I’m dead, pero hindi,” she said, referring to the 1994 Metro Manila Film Festival scandal.
More than the controversies, Solis also discussed her health, with the publication quoting her last December that she was bidding farewell to Instagram, but retracted on January 2. More posts followed, the last dated July 3.
Love her or hate her, Lolit Solis is a force to be reckoned with in showbiz. She is no longer around, but her talents and the people she touched will always remember her as their Nanay Lolit, who defended them to the end.
