The New Trailer of Wicked Shows Events Before The Wizard of Oz

Wicked’s new trailer gives a glimpse of Glinda and Elphaba’s friendship plus events that would lead to the story of the Wizard of Oz.

The full trailer of the movie adaptation of Wicked was released Wednesday, May 15 in the U.S., giving us more details of Glinda and Elphaba’s background.

In the trailer, we see how Glinda (Ariana Grande) and Elphaba (Cynthia Erevo) met and became friends and housemates. They are later mentored by the school’s headmistress Madame Morrible (Michelle Yeoh), who discovers Elphaba’s powers, believing she is the one the Wizard of Oz has been looking for.

Elphaba is then invited to Emerald City where Glinda accompanies her. Along the way, their friendship is tested by circumstances around them as Elphaba’s powers grow and Glinda hints at some jealousy of her friend’s success.

The film is scheduled for a Thanksgiving release. Wicked, directed by Jon Chu also stars Jonathan Bailey, Ethan Slater, and Jeff Goldblum as the legendary Wizard of Oz.

A second part scheduled for 2025

Since the announcement of the adaptation, promotions have gone full swing for it. Because Wicked has had several adaptations, families are curious about its execution. While most of us are familiar with the broadway, others are more familiar with the novels. Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West, written by Gregory Maguire, has been a longtime favorite. It even has a sequel: Son of a Witch!

However, one of the more popular versions of it is the Broadway version, which starred Idina Menzel as Elphaba and Kristin Chenoweth as Glinda back in 2003.

The musical has since been staged in many countries such as the UK, Brazil, Australia, and the Philippines.

The second part of the film is scheduled to come out on November 26, 2025.
