Viz Media Confirms RWBY Vol. 10 Now In The Works!

For the millennials who grew up with RWBY, they’re finally getting that closure, as Viz Media now has the IP and is producing Vol. 10

The web series RWBY became famous in early 2013, known for its ingenious and innovative weapon concepts and its twists on fairytales. But what really brought in the fans was the fantastic animation. The late creator Monty Oum poured his heart and soul into the show, creating powerful female characters that our daughters probably idolized back in the day. However, the multiple scandals caused the whole series to hiatus. It’s been a year since VIZ Media bought RWBY’s Intellectual Property (IP) and, Volume 10 is now in the works!

What is RWBY?

Each character is based on various myths and fairytales, but with their own spin to it. The series’ name is based on the team RWBY which is based on four girls: Ruby Rose (based on Little Red Riding Hood), her half-sister Yang Xiao Long (who was based off Goldilocks), a half-human and half-cat girl Blake Belladona (based on Belle from Beauty and the Beast), and an heiress to one of the biggest companies in that world, Weiss Schnee (based on Snow White). Together, they fight creatures known as Grimm which plague Remnant — the world they live in.

As the series goes on, the four girls find themselves following in the same footsteps of the previous best team, Team STRQ, which is composed of Ruby and Yang’s parents and relatives: Summer Rose, Taiyang Xiao Long, and twin siblings Raven and Qrow Branwen. The series had built so much lore, which made millennials fall in love with it. Back in the day, they were also encouraged to create their original characters. Sadly, the original creator passed away, and the series lost much of its quality. Or what the fans called, “the spirit of Monty Oum.”

But that might change now!

With RWBY now under VIZ Media, it may have a new direction while still paying tribute to the original. Showrunner Kerry Shawcross is now overseeing its production, and what makes it such a relief is that he was part of the original team when it was still under Rooster Teeth. He is credited as one of RWBY’s original creators alongside Monty Oum and Miles Luna.

“In talking with VIZ, they’re also very excited about this. They obviously care about where the show is now, but they also care about where the show came from. And they want to make sure that we can continue this story,” Kerry said in an interview on CBR.

For those who are wondering, VIZ Media is an American media giant that brings anime like Pokemon, Bleach, Naruto, and many others to the North American audiences.

Better refresh by watching all the volumes of RWBY

As parents, we’re always trying to introduce the classic shows to our kids. Most of the new ones of today, we’ve often found too overstimulating. Too many bright colors, too loud, and too fast — it’s like giving our kids sugar without actually making them eat it! In a way, RWBY can be considered a classic and a legend for its age. With smooth animations, an exciting story, and lore, it’s a series that could get kids interested in the old fairytale classics again.

As of now, parents can stream RWBY on Amazon Prime, Hulu, and YouTube.
