Meet The New Residents Of 1600 Pennsylvania Ave: Say Hello To The Bidens
The primer you need on all the members of the Biden family
Last Wednesday, millions of Americans — heck, the whole world — watched in wide eyed wonder as Joe Biden was inaugurated as the 46th president-elect of the United States of America. Throughout his campaign, we saw his family, children and grandchildren included, standing by his side to show their support for their beloved “Pop”. And if there’s one message the Bidens have emphasized, it’s the importance of family. So in honor of the Bidens and everything they stand for, here’s everything you need to know about the First Family.
Say hello to the Bidens!
President Joseph “Joe” Biden Jr.
Joe Biden is best known as former President Obama’s vice-president. He started out his political career as a senator for the state of Delaware, a position he held for 36 years. He married his college sweetheart, Neilia in 1966 and had three children, Joseph “Beau” Biden III in 1969, Robert “Hunter” Biden in 1970 and Naomi Biden in 1971. Neilia and Naomi passed away in a tragic car accident, just a few days after he was elected to the Senate. Biden skipped his swearing in ceremony to be with his sons and chose to commute from Washington DC from Delaware so he could raise his children. In 1977, Joe married his soulmate, Jill Jacobs, and the rest is history.
While being POTUS makes him the most powerful man on the planet, his pride and joy is being a family man, loving husband and dedicated grandfather — his grandaughters say that he calls them everyday!
Dr. Jill Biden
Jill Jacobs, better known as Dr. Jill Biden is a brilliant educator with a master’s in Education, in English and a doctorate in Education. She is the first Second Lady to keep her full-time job and is expected to keep on going! In fact, when she was Second Lady, she would ask her students to call her Dr. B and tell her secret service detail to dress like students to avoid extra attention. Dr. Biden assumed the role of stepmom to Beau and Hunter Biden 43 years ago and loved them like her own ever since. Education in America will be in good hands under the watchful eye of the new FLOTUS.
Ashley Biden
Ashley is the only child of Joe and Jill Biden. She is a social worker and activist and continues to work for non-profit organizations, focusing on mental health and social and economic issues. Ashley says she is the luckiest girl on earth having grown up alongside her big brothers who always protected her.
Hunter Biden
Hunter is the father of Naomi, Finnegan, Maisy and Baby Beau Biden. He also has another daughter born in 2018. Hunter is Joe Biden’s only surviving child from his marriage with Neilia. Although Hunter’s career and personal life are rife with controversy, Biden always talks about how proud he is of his son and speaks with him everyday.
Beau Biden (1964 – 2015)
It’s no secret that Biden was left devastated after his son Beau’s passing. At just 46 years old, Beau died of brain cancer, after a relapse of brain cancer first diagnosed and cured in 2013. He worked in the U.S. Justice Department for a decade and was later on elected as state attorney general. He also served as a major in the Delaware National Guard and awarded the Bronze Star after a tour in Iraq. He is survived by his wife, Hailie, and their two children Natalie and Hunter.
Naomi Biden
Named after her late aunt, the 26 year-old Columbia Law School graduate is known for being extremely vocal on Twitter in defense of her grandfather and dad. Together with her boyfriend, Peter Neal, the duo created a tool to help people figure out if the qualified for the CARES Act.
Finnegan Biden
Although she isn’t as vocal or as active as her sister Naomi on social media, she joined the campaign trail to support her grandfather. Currently a student at the University of Pennsylvania, she joins her family whenever she can.
Maisy Biden
Maisy is the youngest of Hunter Biden’s three daughters with his ex-wife. She is also a student at the University of Pennsylvania. She’s BFFs with Sasha Obama, who attended the same private school and played on the same basketball team. The president-elect has been seen at Maisy’s games and has even skipped an event during his primary campaign to be at one. “He came to every single one of my basketball games, ” shared Maisy in an interview.
Natalie Biden
The eldest child of Beau Biden, Natalie has been known to be the most free-spirited of the bunch. In an interview with TODAY, Natalie shares that she used to do the polar bear plunge with her grandpa, uncle and dad — with divers, swimmers and Secret Service as the audience. Like every other 16-year old, she loves Tiktok, and has amassed quite a following since her appearance at her Pop’s inauguration — when she wowed the world with her monochromatic pink outfit and matching face mask.
Robert Hunter Biden II
Wondering why you don’t see much of this handsome 14 year old? Well, just like every other teenager, he’s probably at school so he can’t be on the campaign trail like the others. Check him out doing the pledge of allegiance at the 2020 Democratic National Convention in the photo above!
Welcoming the commander-in-chief and his big family (who has caught everyone’s attention) into the White House is so exciting. There’s no doubt that America — and the rest of the world — is ready for change. This beautiful family has become a beacon of hope for many, thanks to the breath of fresh air they bring. We are looking forward to what’s in store in the next four years, and we are all especially excited about all the awesome looks the Biden family is set to serve. They have become overnight style sensations, and it seems they have a deep love and loyalty to American designers.
Best of luck, President Biden, Vice President Harris, Dr. Biden and Mr. Emhoff. And may God bless America.
