Shakira and Gerard Pique Reach Child Custody Deal

Shakira and Gerard, who split up in June, will co-parent their children, with Shakira bringing the kids with her to Miami.

Latin superstar Shakira and her ex-partner Gerard Pique have reached a child custody deal, with Shakira bringing their two kids, Sasha and Milan, to Miami next month—according to Agence France Presse.

Gerard will have the two kids every ten days of the month including the school holidays—according to the footballer’s lawyer Ramon Tamborero.

Children First

In a joint statement provided to the media, the ex-couple announced that they’ve signed a joint custody and that the welfare of their kids is their main priority.

“Our sole objective is to provide our children with the utmost security and protection and hope that they can continue with their lives in a safe and calm environment,” they said, asking for privacy.

The joint custody announcement comes after Gerard, who has been playing for FC Barcelona, declared his retirement from the game.

Life moves on for Shakira

Shakira and Gerard were together for 11 years before parting ways early this year. In her interview with Elle last October, the “Hips Don’t Lie” singer said that the separation was her darkest hour.

“It’s hard to talk about it, especially because I’m still going through it, and because I’m in the public eye and because our separation is not like a regular separation,” she said. “And so it’s been tough not only for me but also for my kids. Incredibly difficult. I have paparazzi camping outside, in front of my house, 24/7. And there’s not a place where I can hide from them with my kids, except for my own house.”

They met while filming the music video for “Waka, Waka.” This was the theme song for the 2010 World Cup. They confirmed their relationship in March 2011.

Shakira is currently promoting her new song “Monotonia.”
