A Modern Retelling: The 6 Wives of Henry VIII are Brought to Life in Six the Musical

The hit musical from West End is set to have a limited run in Manila from October 1 to 20 at the Theatre at Solaire!

We all know about the story of England’s Henry VIII and how he changed history. Now, it’s the turn of his six wives as GMG Productions announced they are bringing for a limited time SIX The Musical, which has hit the West End by storm.

Written by Toby Marlow and Lucy Moss, the modern-pop musical gives a glimpse from the points of view of Henry VIII’s six wives—Catherine of Aragon, Anne Boleyn, Jane Seymour, Anne of Cleves, Catherine Parr, and Katherine Howard—as they tell their own stories for today’s generation of theatergoers.

This includes the story of how Catherine of Aragon, Anne Boleyn, and Jane Seymour eventually gave birth to England’s future rulers: Queen Mary, Queen Elizabeth, and King Edward VI.

A modern take on England’s history

“Bringing SIX The Musical to Manila is a momentous occasion. The energy and impact of this production are unparalleled, and we believe Manila audiences are in for a royal treat,” Carlos Candal, the CEO of GMG Productions said. “This is not just a show but an experience that celebrates the strength and resilience of women in a way that is both entertaining and empowering.”

Since its debut in West End, Six the Musical has received good reviews. The Daily Telegraph dubbed it as “a theatrical phenomenon,” while Vogue US calls it “a riotous explosion of wit that speaks strongly and vibrantly to today.”

Through its modern retelling of historical events, parents and children alike can learn about England’s famous king and the stories of his wives in this musical. There are also themes about what is feminine beauty, how a partner determines a person’s self-worth, and more with Henry’s six wives taking turns regaling and singing their tales to determine who their common husband hurt the most.

History may not be the most interesting subject but turning it into a pop concert will definitely spark a few conversations.

SIX The Musical runs from October 1 to 20 at the Theatre at Solaire.
