The Pink Ball: A Night Of Purpose
A purposeful night against Breast Cancer, The Estée Lauder Companies once again holds a ball to raise awareness against the second deadliest cancers int he world.
The Pink Ball, one of the year’s most anticipated charity events, unfolded on October 6, 2024, at the opulent Shangri-La The Fort Manila. Hosted by The Estée Lauder Companies, this elegant gala reaffirmed their commitment to the Philippine breast cancer community by raising an impressive PHP 9.65 million in support of life-saving initiatives. The funds will directly benefit the expansion of a free breast cancer screening program for underserved communities in Metro Manila, spearheaded by St. Luke’s Medical Center Foundation.
A Night Of Purpose
The ballroom sparkled with star power and elegance, as industry leaders, philanthropists, and prominent figures such as Kaye Tinga, Tessa Prieto, and Tim Yap joined forces for the cause. The event, produced by Yaparazzi Events and PR, was nothing short of magical. Attendees were treated to captivating performances by The Opera Belles, Jade Riccio, and Carla Guevara Laforteza, while the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra (PPO) set the evening’s tone with a stirring performance. The night culminated in a special moment when Anya Lagman performed “Together as One,” a song she composed exclusively for the event, aligning perfectly with this year’s theme, ‘Beautifully United to Help End Breast Cancer.’
The event was further enriched by a live auction, which showcased exclusive and luxurious items, generously donated by supporters of the cause. Auctioned pieces included stunning art from renowned Filipino artists Katrina Cuenca, Kenneth Montegrande, Carlo Tanseco, and Patrick Coard, as well as a coveted strand of 10-12 mm semi-baroque gold pearls from Jewelmer. Other notable items included a portrait session with celebrated photographer BJ Pascual, a limited-edition 500ml Crème de La Mer, and vacation packages from top destinations such as Shangri-La, Sunlight Air, and Sunlight Ecotourism Resort.
Sharyn Wong, Country General Manager of The Estée Lauder Companies Philippines, took the stage to express her gratitude and emphasize the significance of the campaign. “The total amount raised from the event was beyond our expectations. Breast cancer continues to be the leading cause of cancer-related deaths among women globally. Early detection is critical, especially here in the Philippines where many women are diagnosed too late. These funds will allow us to make a real difference and save lives.”
Dr. Benjamin SA Campomanes, President of St. Luke’s Medical Center Foundation, took part in the evening’s generosity by making a personal donation to the cause. Reflecting on the partnership, he shared, “This collaboration will help us not only screen women for breast cancer but also provide full treatment and support to those in need. We are honored to be part of this life-saving initiative.” His donation further highlighted the sense of community and shared responsibility that made the Pink Ball such a resounding success.
Breast Cancer Awareness: The Power of Early Detection
The evening’s glamor was grounded by a powerful message: breast cancer affects everyone, and early detection can save lives. Globally, breast cancer is the most common cancer in women, claiming more lives than any other cancer. In the Philippines, the statistics are especially alarming, as the country has the highest incidence of breast cancer in Southeast Asia. Early detection is the key to reducing these numbers.
While breast cancer predominantly affects women, men are not immune to the disease. Most concerning, though, is how breast cancer often impacts mothers—those who play central roles in their families and communities. It’s not just older women at risk; cases of breast cancer in younger women, even teenagers as young as 18, are on the rise.
The message is clear: getting checked is crucial for everyone, regardless of age. For mothers, this becomes even more vital, as early diagnosis can mean more time with their children and families. Wong emphasized, “It’s about ensuring that our women, especially mothers, prioritize their health. By being breast-aware, they can take proactive steps for their own well-being and for the sake of their families.”
The Breast Cancer Campaign, which was launched by The Estée Lauder Companies in 1992, continues to drive awareness, research, and medical support. Over the years, the campaign has raised more than $131 million globally, advancing scientific research, expanding access to medical resources, and promoting preventive care. The Pink Ball is just one of many efforts to push forward this life-saving mission.
An Evening of Hope and Change
As the evening drew to a close, there was a palpable sense of unity and purpose among the attendees. The Pink Ball was not only a celebration of the generosity and commitment of its patrons but also a reminder of the importance of awareness and action in the fight against breast cancer. Every bid, every performance, and every guest in attendance contributed to the life-changing work that will follow.
With funds raised exceeding expectations, the future looks brighter for many women and families in Metro Manila who will now have access to critical screening and care. The message of The Estée Lauder Companies is loud and clear: Together, we can help end breast cancer, one step at a time.
