A Voltron Live Action Is In The Works!

Here’s what we know about the planned Voltron live-action film that stars Henry Cavill!

Voltron fans rejoice! It has been announced that a live-action film of Voltron is scheduled for filming in Australia with Henry Cavill, Sterlin K. Brown, and Rita Ora leading the group!

The Hollywood Reporter reported last October that Cavill, known for his roles as Superman and The Witcher, is on board the project with Rawson Marshall Thurber, known for his work in Red Notice directing the film.

What do we know so far?

It’s unclear what the plot will be, but Thuber, alongside Ellen Shanman, wrote the script. Thuber shared during a video message last October that it will introduce a new generation of pilots.

“We’ve reimagined Voltron for the live-action world, but we’re going to stay true to … those iconic elements that you love, that I love,” he shared.

In addition to Cavill, Brown, and Ora, Daniel Quinn-Toye and John Kim are also part of the cast. Quinn-Toye is a newcomer who gained attention when he starred as an understudy to Tom Holland in the play Romeo & Juliet in the West End.

On Tuesday, November 26, three new names were announced as part of the cast. They are Samson Kayo, Alba Baptista, and Tharanya Tharan.

The project is under Amazon MGM Studios and will be filmed in Australia.

Voltron through the years

Voltron is based on the Japanese sci-fi series Beast King GoLion and Kikou Kantai Dairugger XV. It tells the story of five space explorers who traveled to Arus to find the five lions who formed Voltron, the defender of the Universe.

The show, which celebrated its 40th year, has become part of pop culture with three animated series shown in recent years. Its most recent revival was Voltron: Legendary Defender.
