We Love That Puss in Boots 2 Aged with Our Kids!

Normally just a gold mine of memes for kids, we’re glad that Puss in Boots 2 dished out some Real Talk in its usual humor.

Everyone’s favorite and fearless hero, Puss in Boots (voiced by Antonio Banderas) always made our kids laugh—thanks to his humor and antics of somehow being able to persuade people with the “stare”. As part of a franchise that marked the golden era among millennials as a gold mine for memes, it’s amazing that Puss in Boots 2 aged along with its audience. It gives some Real Talk alongside its usual comedy flair. Not only does it tackle reality but it also teases that the meme saying of “Shrek is love, Shrek is life” won’t die anytime soon.

Dealing with Death in the Literal Sense

Unlike most children’s movies that imply the lesson regarding Life and Death, Puss in Boots 2 (otherwise known as Puss in Boots: The Last Wish) allows kids to visualize it. When Puss in Boots realizes he’s on his last life, he lives in denial until he’s confronted by Death himself. The big bad wolf (voiced by Wagner Moura) introduces himself as Death (or who Puss calls Los Muertes, which is Spanish for Death) and hounds the titular character throughout the movie, being a constant reminder that Death is always around.

Dark as it sounds, the execution was the perfect blend of humor and seriousness. It tackled mental health issues that came along with dealing with mortality, too.

It gives kids the chance to visualize mental health issues.

Puss in Boots 2 manifests the journey of a goal with dealing with inner demons. From the Cave of Lost Souls to the River of Relaxation, and many other places, Puss in Boots along with several other characters like Goldilocks, Kitty Softpaws (voiced by Salma Hayek), and Perito deal with the ever-changing map towards the Wishing Star. Depending on the holder, the map changes, which reflects that each person has their own personal battles.

We love Puss in Boots 2 for its classy humor. All this while it tackles the reality of dealing with death and mental health issues. Moreover, it opens the door to dealing with people with an antisocial personality disorder. It reveals that there are just some people that are way beyond help. While it does retain being a gold mine for memes, Puss in Boots 2 aged the plot with its audience. It shows just how mindful kids can be nowadays.

Puss in Boots 2 will be showing in cinemas this coming December 7, 2022. Don’t forget to catch it!
