Together with Animal Kingdom Foundation (AKF), MARS continues to advocate for adoptions by donating more than 30,000 daily pet meals to their shelter partners. And recently, last September 28, 2025, they held the Run Fur Life—attended by over 1000 participants, both human and canine— to raise awareness and funds for homeless and shelter animals.
Besides the fundraising efforts, there’s also been a movement to change the perception of adoption stories. After over a decade of working with MARS, Animal Kingdom Foundation (AKF) offers a solution to make adoption more accessible. Leading the pack that day was BB, a three-legged rescue dog turned mascot and advocate for shelter pets. BB’s story is a reminder that resilience, love, and second chances are what adoption is truly about.
“We’ve built initiatives such as www.WeR4HappyTails.com, a portal that connects future pet parents with adoptable cats and dogs from partner shelters,” adds Atty. Heidi Marquez-Caguioa, Program Director of Animal Kingdom Foundation. “Not only does it promote responsible pet ownership, it also helps families find the furry companions who will change their lives forever. It’s the perfect moment to take that step and welcome a new companion and get #TwoLivesChanged.”

Unfortunately, their urge to get one is often an impulse, often because they saw something cute online. However, that doesn’t mean we should discourage them. According to the Mars & CALM PAWS 2025 survey statistic, 83% of people worldwide said their pet has improved their mental well-being. It keeps the bad thoughts at bay; the unconditional love these furbabies are capable of giving helps them weather through tough times.
