5 Reasons Why Parents Should Make Time for Each Other
Finding time for each other amidst raising kids, maintaining a household, and going to work can be difficult. But here are reasons why parents should make time for each other!
Becoming a parent can change your relationship with everyone—including your partner. Before having kids, you probably had most of the evening to yourselves—despite working long hours. Weekends were often spent on a romantic staycation, going out with other couples, or binge-watching your favorite movies and shows. But with kids now, it’s a bit different. Parenting duties tend to get in the way. And by the time you get to bed, you’re too exhausted to either talk or get intimate. Instead, you’d rather go straight to sleep. Parenthood can definitely take its toll but it shouldn’t interfere with you spending some quality time. Here are five reasons why parents should make an effort to find the time for each other!
1. It allows you to be on the same page
Spending some time with each other lets you communicate therefore, you can align your goals and ambitions for yourselves and the whole family.
2. It builds a strong foundation for the whole family
This is important especially when you all encounter struggles and hiccups. Having a solid foundation allows all members of the family to get passed whatever is thrown their way.
3. It’s a form of self-care
Parenting can take its toll—not just physically but especially mentally and emotionally. Spending time with your partner and knowing you have someone to go through this whole journey with will truly make you feel that you aren’t alone.
4. Your kids can learn from your relationship
When your kids see how happy you are, it teaches them what a healthy relationship looks like. This can influence the choices they make when they get into relationships themselves.
5. It keeps the flame alive
Of course, getting intimate keeps the romance alive between you and your partner! It makes you look forward to doing things together—whether big or mundane tasks.
Making time for each other and spicing things up
In a recent interview with Modern Parenting, first-time mom Ava Daza Zanirato highlights the importance of intimacy and finding time for each other as partners.
“I think it’s about keeping things fun and not just monotonous. Scheduling sex is a good way to deal with it. Because for some people, it can be a way for them to anticipate and be like, ‘Oh my gosh, we’re going to be doing it tonight.’ You can mentally prepare. This is especially when you’re so tired from a long day at work or taking care of your baby, and when you get home, you don’t realize that your husband or wife wants to do it and you reject them. Of course, it’s a blow to the ego. But if you say it like, ‘Hey, I feel like we haven’t been intimate in a long time. Do you want to schedule sex tonight or tomorrow night?’ It’s something you can both prepare for. You can prepare mentally or take a shower. I feel like that helps a lot.”
Ava co-founded Jellytime, a brand that aims to change the landscape of conversation surrounding sex and pleasure, alongside her sister Isabelle Daza Semblat, and cousin Martine Cajucom Ho. Both also happen to be mothers. Since its launch last April 2022, the team has introduced lube and pleasure toys that even parents enjoy using on each other.
Recently, Jellytime hosted the first Pleasure Night—an evening to help open minds to the art of seduction. Ava shares, “Pleasure night is about seeing pleasure through different lenses. Bondage was something I didn’t understand before. But when I opened my mind and learned about it, I discovered that it’s more about power play in relationships.”
Thanks to Jellytime’s lube and pleasure toys such as the Deuce and Chinchilla, parents can find different ways to spice up their intimate time with each other.
Finding time for each other makes you look forward to a new day
Being a parent can be incredibly draining, which is why it’s so important to make time for each other—whether it’s scheduling sex, as Ava advises, or having a date night every other week. This way, you stay motivated and always have something to look forward to!
